Job Summary:

This is a full-time contract position initially, with the potential of becoming full-time after 6 months. Eligibility for benefits only after becoming full-time.

The Maintenance Technician is a member of Octane's technical team, reporting to the Maintenance Manager. This position works collaboratively with the maintenance, production, and quality assurance teams, ensuring continuous improvement of equipment, systems, and facilities engaged in the development and production of Octane's innovative products.

More specifically this position works in the maintenance department servicing and troubleshooting building machinery, systems and new projects. There is a focus on maintaining existing robotic production equipment, as well as the design and implementation of new robotic automation in a GMP lab and production environment.

Duties:
- Participate in sourcing, pricing, installation, testing and maintenance of production equipment and automated machinery.

- Establish related Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and training programs.

- Ability to work hands on and understand the fundamentals of mechanical and electrical systems.

- Provide technical support to operations and assembly staff in troubleshooting production equipment, co-ordinating efforts, and expediting repairs.

- Co-ordinate with cross-functional departments (i.e. Engineering, Operations, Quality, etc.) to ensure equipment effectiveness and reliability.

- Follow and where responsible, implement all Health, Safety & Environment standards to maintain a safe working environment for all employees.

- Monitor and improve the efficiency, output and safety of manufacturing processes through observations and measurements as well as by collecting and interpreting data from other technical and operating personnel.

- Support the implementation, optimization, and the utilization of new asset management systems for planning maintenance activities, storing equipment history, to support corrective/preventative maintenance and asset management activities.

- Audit the effectiveness of on-site machinery to ensure targets are met.

- Participate in customer and ISO audits as it relates to facilities, equipment and maintenance activities history.

- Initiate programming, as needed.

- Conduct experiments and write detailed reports as needed.

- Other duties that may be assigned.

Skills:

- Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Ability to troubleshoot a variety of mechanical, electrical and robotics problems
- Demonstrated experience & exposure to robotics
- Ability to work in several coding languages relevant to robotics (preferably SQL, Python)
- Ability to work collaboratively with a 'hands-on' approach in a team environment

- Aptitude towards PLC and other device programming using Python and SQL.

- Mechanical and electrical aptitude.

-Self-motivated and a strong communicator.

Education & Experience:

Post-secondary education & experience in a technical discipline in the field of Industrial Automation, Robotics and Electronics systems.

1-3 years experience in automation, manufacturing settings and/or in product development.

Exposure to working in an ISO environment.

Previous EHSS & WHMIS training.

Compensation to be determined based on education and experience.

The standard production hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m.-11 p.m. Work done by his role normally occurs during regular daytime weekday office hours. However, as a growing company with continuous operations, hours of work involved may vary to accommodate business needs. Flexible hours are required and may include evening and weekend work from time to time.
