MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT

We are seeking applications for a Maintenance Technician to join our team of skilled workers. This position will be from September 2, 2025 to August 28,2026, with the possibility of extension.
This position will be based out of the Maintenance Department, at the Grasslands Public Schools Central Office, and will work at locations throughout the division. Applicants should have basic experience in carpentry, painting, general building maintenance, and all types of grounds maintenance. Experience operating a wide variety of hand and power tools would be considered an asset.

Job Duties:
General repairs of buildings, school locations, grounds, and equipment including replacing windows, Installation and repair of cabinetry, repairing playground equipment, safety equipment, and desks etc.
Perform grounds maintenance, when required, such as mowing and removing snow from walkways and parking lots.
Purchase, transport, and store materials and supplies in an efficient and economic manner for the safe and proper operation of all maintenance and repairs that are undertaken by the individual.
Monitor inventory levels and advise the Manager of Facilities and Maintenance on the items needed to restore stock levels.
Maintain the integrity of the preventative maintenance system by completing all assigned tasks and providing recommendations to the Manager of Facilities and Maintenance on corrective measures that should be undertaken.
As required, assist all trades, direct seasonal and casual help, and perform other duties as assigned.
Ideal candidates skills & abilities:
Understanding and appreciation of Grasslands Public Schools mission and values.
Able to conduct oneself in a responsible and respectful manner while working in and around a school environment with students, school staff, and visitors, as well as, in the community, and with third parties, that is in alignment with division's policies, guidelines and values.
Able to operate a variety of power tools/equipment and assemble and disassemble materials such as scaffolding according to safety procedures and protocols.
Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision, while working independently or on a team, which requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, organizational and time management skills and the ability to prioritize multiple demands.
Able to ensure that safe working procedures and conditions are always adhered to and follow all OH&S protocols.
Able to effectively communicate while working independently, or with a team, to ensure safe work practices.
On a daily basis, able to perform tasks that may be physically demanding that includes but not limited to; climbing and balancing; stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, turning, and reaching; lifting, carrying, pulling and pushing; and prolonged sitting and standing; and able to tolerate and work around dust and fumes.
Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Post-secondary diploma in a relevant field is preferred
Minimum 2 years' experience working in a related area is preferred
- A combination of the minimum education requirements, along with relevant experience, may be considered-
Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence and clean drivers abstract.
