Our Halifax, Nova Scotia Team is growing and we're looking for someone to join our Maintenance Team. The Maintenance Team is responsible for ensuring our properties remain in top condition, both inside and out. You will work closely with our Building Ambassadors (our front-line team that work and live in the buildings), other Maintenance Technicians, and our Support Centre team to ensure all repair and unit renovation work is completed quickly & efficiently, with a focus on upholding our 4 pillars: Safety & Security, Cleanliness, Opportunity and Community. For this role, you will be required to regularly travel to our properties throughout Halifax, NS. The salary range for this role is $60,000 - $70,000.

The Role
As a Maintenance Technician, you'll work alongside 10-15 Building Ambassadors and a Team Captain, servicing approximately 200-300 units.
Key Responsibilities include:
Unit Turns
Oversee all unit turns in region/area to ensure required work is completed efficiently & on time
Collaborating with and managing external vendors & community contractors as required
Repair and Maintenance
Complete day-to-day repair and maintenance work, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact
Manage and track maintenance requests using Yardi, our property management software
Manage relationships with community contractors and vendor, providing guidance and training, and staying actively connected to ensure quality work when external support is needed
Communicate with Building Ambassadors and customers to understand the issue, provide updates, and ensure proper notice is given before entering a unit
Budget & Vendor Oversight
Manage the budget for your team
Approve invoices for completed work
Review and approve work from vendors and community contractors
Work with the Support Centre to stay aligned on maintenance priorities and spending
Recruiting & Training
Recruit, onboard, and support Community Contractors (VIDA residents who complete small-scale maintenance tasks in their own community, building skills while keeping rent affordable).
Provide hands-on training to Community Contractors on tasks such as painting, caulking, and snaking a drain to build confidence and capacity across the community.
Teach Building Ambassadors the key technical aspects of their buildings (water shut-offs, electrical rooms, etc.) so they can support both residents and contractors effectively.
What you need to succeed in this role:
Knowledge & experience with various aspects of building repair & maintenance in a multifamily residential setting, including flooring, painting, drywall repair, basic carpentry, plumbing and electrical skills (5+ years)
A valid driver's license & reliable transportation is required.
Familiarity and/or ability to learn quickly various tech programs and apps, including Outlook, MS Teams chat, spreadsheets, and forms, and the ability to quickly learn and navigate new tech.
A commitment to providing excellent customer service to our residents, vendors, and community partners.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members.
Organization & capability of managing multiple maintenance & repair projects at one time.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
Ability to stand, bend, and move for extended periods.
