Concord Confections (Division of Tootsie Roll), the manufacturer of Dubble Bubble gum and other fine candy products has an immediate opening for a Maintenance Supervisor. The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for day-to-day management of hourly staff, equipment and building maintenance, downtime resolution, maintenance team activities and costs.
Duties & Responsibilities
-Essential Functions, but not limited to:
Manage, motivate, develop and provide direct leadership to maintenance staff by reinforcing and encouraging a high-performance culture and safe working environment.
Communicate and coordinate maintenance activities within the team and with all relevant stakeholders.
Ensure there is efficient utilization of resources by managing maintenance staff capacity and floor coverage.
Collaborates with QA and Production in trouble shooting problems; cultivating a continuous quality and productivity improvement mentality.
Support capital projects, including initial assessments, quotations, contracts and execution.
Accountable for timely execution of all scheduled work and provides guidance to team members on prioritization of work including emergency/breakdown work. Be active and hands-on.
Supervise and periodically audit maintenance work completed by team members and/or Contractors ensuring work is satisfactorily completed following all company policies and procedures including GMP, Health & Safety and Food Safety requirements.
Responsible to report Food Safety and Quality problems to personnel with authority to initiate action.
Lead shift-exchange meetings and other routines within Maintenance department, and with other departments.
Support/Lead HVAC, utilities and building related tasks.
Support planning, scheduling and execution of capital projects and shutdowns/ turnarounds/ asset restoration plans.
Ensure compliance with all applicable provincial and federal labor regulations and adhere to the terms and conditions specified in the collective bargaining agreements.
Track, analyze, report downtime issues across all shifts. Take timely action to address issues, gaps, downtime and other concerns.
Develop manuals, SOPs, Forms, training presentations etc. Provide training to internal personnel as necessary.
Manage spend and budget closely to meet targets.
Track and report performance of staff and plant metrics. Take timely action to address issues, gaps, downtime and other concerns.
Be trained at both plants to support Maintenance Salaried staff coverage and other needs.
Manage and monitor maintenance tasks, contractors, project needs etc, including during evenings and weekends as and when needed.
Be trained at both plants to support Production Supervision coverage if and when needed.
Perform all duties in accordance with Concord Confections Food Safety and Quality Policy & Programs and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, HACCP, GMPs, SQF, Health & Safety and Customer requirements.
Maintain electrical / electronic systems and equipment:
Manufacturing / process equipment, Automated conveyor and packaging equipment
Robotic cells, Industrial communications networks
Building HVAC and lighting
Maintain and organize wiring schematics and system drawings. Set-up and /or Adjust parameters in machines, VFDs and servos using built-in faceplate / HMI interface.
Troubleshoot and adjust PLC and HMI programs. Tune and troubleshoot equipment for proper operation. Inspection of all operating parts to ensure proper operation within expected tolerances.
Assist in the assembly, programming, installation and troubleshooting of equipment as necessary.
Travel to and work at both production sites, as and when required.
Lead and/or support projects, initiatives and tasks, within and/or outside Maintenance department, as and when required.
Education, Experience and other Requirements
:
Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related Degree/Diploma or Equivalent.
3+ years of experience in a complex manufacturing environment in a similar role. CPG experience is a plus.
Supervision and Team Management skills.
Interest in Industrial Automation and have a strong mechanical and electrical background.
Good knowledge of Equipment Troubleshooting and Repairs, Maintenance tasks, GMP, proper work ergonomics and Safety requirements for industrial applications.
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Project, Powerpoint and systems.
Ability to lift, move and transport parts etc upto 35 lbs.
Experience with Rockwell Software 5/500/5000, Factory Talk View and AutoCAD. Strong candidates will also have experience using:
