Reporting to the Building Operations Manager, the Maintenance Supervisor oversees the day-to-day maintenance and operations of Otipemisiwak Metis Government properties. This role provides leadership to the maintenance team, ensures buildings and systems are well-maintained, and coordinates repair, renovation, and preventative maintenance activities. The Supervisor acts as a key liaison between the Building Operations Manager, maintenance staff, vendors, and contractors, ensuring high standards of quality, safety, and efficiency are consistently met.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operations Oversight
Oversee routine and preventative maintenance of assigned buildings, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other systems.
Take responsibility for the day-to-day upkeep and functionality of designated facilities, ensuring timely response to maintenance needs.
Establish and monitor maintenance schedules, including seasonal and preventive programs.
Conduct inspections in collaboration with the Building Operations Manager to assess building structures and determine repair or renovation needs.
Maintain detailed records of building operations and maintenance activities, preparing regular reports with recommendations for improvements.
Oversee and maintain maintenance inventory, including tools, equipment, and machinery.
Manage company vehicles, ensuring regular maintenance, inspections, and proper reporting.
Oversee and manage key building assets, including HVAC systems, furnaces, boilers, and vehicles.
Identify and implement strategies to improve building operations, efficiency, and energy performance.
Ensure quality control, confirming that all maintenance, repairs, and renovations meet high standards.
Team Leadership & Coordination
Supervise, coach, and provide guidance to maintenance team members, ensuring tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and effectively.
Lead and coordinate building renovation projects in collaboration with the Facilities Manager.
Respond promptly to maintenance issues and prioritize tasks based on urgency and operational impact.
Develop, implement, and refine maintenance and operations procedures to improve workflow and consistency.
Vendor & Contractor Management
Coordinate and schedule external vendors, contractors, and subcontractors for repairs, upgrades, and maintenance services.
Manage vendor, contractor, and subcontractor relationships, including renewals, quotes, and invoices.
Serve as the primary point of contact for maintenance-related vendor interactions and ensure service delivery meets contractual and organizational standards.
Coordinate project logistics across departments to ensure effective communication and minimal operational disruption.
Project & Process Support
Assist in planning, organizing, coordinating, and implementing building operations programs and initiatives.
Maintain up-to-date documentation for processes, procedures, asset tracking, and maintenance records.
Support departments with events or operational needs requiring facilities or maintenance assistance.

Exceptional project management and coordination skills with the ability to manage maintenance projects, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation.

Strong knowledge of construction and maintenance, including best practices.
Technical knowledge of various building systems (ie. HVAC, plumbing, electrical).
Physical ability to oversee and inspect building operations as required.
Strong sense of ethics, professionalism, and political and cultural sensitivity.
Knowledge of health and safety regulations and compliance requirements.
Knowledge of Metis history, culture, and issues affecting Metis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemiswak Metis Government is an asset.
Qualifications
Minimum 3-5 years' experience in building maintenance, facilities management, or a related field.
Minimum 1-2 years' experience in a leadership role, leading a team of direct reports.
Knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural maintenance.
Experience managing maintenance teams, contractors, and vendors.
Experience working in an Indigenous and/or non-profit setting is an asset.
Other Requirements
Ability to work a flexible schedule of days, evenings, weekends, overnight stays, and holidays, as required. Ability and willingness to work on call to meet facility and service needs.
As this position supports buildings and facilities across the Otipemisiwak Metis Government, this position will require regular travel within Edmonton, as well as some travel throughout the province.
Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver's License.
