Job Description

Ace Hotel Toronto is our first-ever home in Canada, in the heart of the Fashion District, near St. Andrew's Market and Playground.

To perform preventive maintenance, upkeep and repairs on the hotel's facilities and mechanical equipment with particular emphasis on, but not limited to the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

CORE FOCUS & ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES



Qualified candidates must be able to satisfactorily complete the following responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned.

Perform or assist scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repair on hotel facilities and mechanical equipment. Identify and troubleshoot problems, make repairs and/or schedule the work via a certified contractor. Maintain appropriate records of preventive maintenance and repairs. Prepare and paint surfaces of building structure, furniture and equipment using proper application techniques, various products and visual ability to identify colors and patterns, measure lengths and quantities and assess areas for repair. Respond to requests and make the necessary repairs in a timely and courteous manner. Maintain knowledge of fire standpipe, sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers throughout the hotel to ensure proper working condition and fire protection in compliance with local fire codes. Assist with requests to shut down water, boiler and chillers and gas supplies. Change filters on HVAC and fan coil units. Perform all work orders assigned. Perform or assist in all repairs, maintenance and painting. Perform preventive maintenance according to the PM Schedule. Maintain an open communication with all appropriate departments regarding the condition of the hotel amenities. Maintain proper environmental conditions throughout the hotel. Assist with contractor requests.

SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS



In addition to the core focus & responsibilities, the candidate is expected to complete the following duties:

Work along with the Director of Engineering in developing and achieving the goals and objectives for the Department and hotel. Develop and conduct technical and quality assurance training for employees. Keep adequate inventories on hand. Due to the nature of the business, the incumbent may be required to do other duties and special projects as assigned.

Ability to satisfactorily communicate in verbal and written English with guests, management, and co-workers to their understanding. Prioritize and organize work assignments, have timely follow up and execution. Have superb time management skills. Maintain complete knowledge of all hotel services/features and hours of operation. Other language, mathematical, and reasoning abilities as outlined below. Ability to comply with physical demands as outlined below. Knowledge and understanding of Atelier & Ace Culture & initiatives Technologically sound with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations. Must have basic working knowledge of all trades within Engineering. Visual ability to read manufacturer's instructions, schematics and blueprints, to determine wire colors for safe repair and color coding.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE



Minimum five years in school and/or hands-on work experience in buildings with complex plumbing systems. Individuals should have broad, practical experience in the fields of stationary engineering, building maintenance, and plumbing. Candidates must be familiar with work and limitations of various crafts, particularly licensed workers who are employed in building maintenance. Knowledge of hotel systems and equipment in order to make repairs within the building is preferred. Candidates must have working knowledge of extinguishers, applicable sanitary codes, and general safety operations procedures. If applicable, must have certifications, licenses, and/or training as required by municipal, provincial and federal laws. Additional First Aid, CPR, and/or AED training is preferred.

Candidate must meet the following cognitive abilities:

Ability to understand guests' service needs & requests. Ability to acknowledge guests' requests in a polite manner. Ability to clearly communicate in verbal and written English (additional foreign languages are encouraged and preferred). Ability to apply logical thinking and understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to address and solve problems involving guest and operational issues. Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection. Primary environment: ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Sit, walk, and stand continuously. Lift / carry up to 70lbs frequently. Bend, squat, crawl, and reach above shoulder level. Use dominant hand coordination for simple grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine manipulation. May be exposed to extreme temperatures, dust, dampness, height, and moving machinery.
