Position SummaryStep into a pivotal role as a Utility Maintenance Person where your expertise in repairs and maintenance will ensure our campus residences are safe, efficient, and welcoming for all. Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Affairs Operations Facilities, the primary purpose of this position is to conduct the initial assessment of maintenance issues and provide repairs to residence facilities, equipment, and furnishings.What You'll Do:

  • Conducting structural repairs (e.g. picture hangers, tack boards, installing TV's, replacing ceiling tiles);
  • Conducting repairs to furnishings, appliances and equipment;
  • Conducting maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment as required (e.g. replacing shower heads and aerators, unplugging toilets and drains; replacing toilet flappers and handles);
  • Providing supervision and training of student maintenance staff;
  • Conducting initial assessment of maintenance issues and advising management on maintenance issues that must be referred to Facilities Management for repairs;
  • Building and/or installing furnishings, shelving, and specialized equipment;
  • Repairs to appliances including fridges, stoves, microwaves, freezers, washers and dryers.
  • Plumbing repairs such as unplugging drains and toilets, replacing flappers and handles and replacing showerheads and aerators;
  • Maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies including sourcing and stocking replacement parts;
  • Reporting conditions impacting the security, safety, and maintenance of residence buildings;
  • Coordinating and organizing storage areas;
  • Moving furnishings as needed;
  • Changing bulbs in light fixtures;
  • Conducting preventative maintenance of equipment;
  • Assisting housekeeping staff as needed (e.g. moving linens/supplies);
  • Scheduling general preventative maintenance;

Position RequirementsWhat You'll Bring to this Position:
  • Successful completion of Grade 12 supplemented by a minimum of three years previous related work experience, preferably in basic maintenance and/or technical training such as Sask. Polytech Building System Technology certificate;
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid Class 5 Saskatchewan driver's license is required.
Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in the Role:
  • General knowledge of hardware such fasteners, and of basic carpentry assembly;
  • General knowledge of basic plumbing, cleaning, painting, and electrical;
  • Must have well developed communication skills (oral and written);
  • Must have good organization skills and ability to multi-task;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal tactfully and courteously with residents, guests, staff, and general public;
  • Ability to solve problems;
  • Ability to participate in and understand that the University has a diverse and respectful work environment;
  • Experience in operating small power tools;
  • Knowledge of WHMIS;
  • Ability to understand and comply with University health and safety requirements, Saskatchewan Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, and all safe work procedures and practices applicable to the position;
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer equipment for stock and material orders as well as completing work orders;
  • Prior experience with using the StarRez system application would be an asset;
  • Must be able to source parts and costs for repairs
Physical DemandsGood physical health and strength is required to lift and move moderate to heavy furniture and equipment. Ability to work at considerable heights.
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 4
Salary Range $48,056.32 - 64,891.84
Status Term
Work HoursTypically Monday- Friday, 8:00am -4:30pm (as per Facility Services). Variable work hours are required from time to time, which can include evenings, holidays, and weekends.Must be able to work altered hours during peak times, for example; special events, student move-in and move-out.
