Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB) operates and maintains the Angus L. Macdonald and A. Murray MacKay Bridges, facilitating over 34 million crossings annually. Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Painter cleans, removes failed coatings, prepares steel surfaces, and applies paint to bridge structures.
This Safety Sensitive Position involves working at extreme heights (170-320 feet), confined spaces, and adverse weather. Key responsibilities include adhering to HHB safety standards, ensuring confined space access, reporting safety concerns, and performing rescues if needed while wearing HHB-supplied protective equipment. A Safety Sensitive Position is one where impaired performance due to drug or alcohol use could lead to incidents affecting safety, security, property, or the environment. These roles involve key operational responsibilities with little to no direct supervision.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Adhere to HHB safety policies, procedures, and reporting standards.
• Perform painting of the bridges while maintaining quality control and productivity in the Maintenance Painting Program.
• Set up/tear down workstations, inspect/clean tools, and store equipment.
• Complete required safety training and skills development (training provided or paid for by HHB).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Ability to work at extreme heights (170-320 feet), in adverse weather, in confined spaces, in direct traffic, and participate in high-angle rescue.
• Must pass physical demands and lead-level tests, as well as employment and criminal background checks.
• Punctual, dependable, and safety-focused with a can-do attitude.
• Experience with power hand tools and working in a team environment. (An Asset).
• Clean driving record and valid Class 5 Nova Scotia's Drivers License (An Asset).
• Experience with heights. (An Asset).
Vacancy: Hiring 4 positions
Position: This full-time, temporary seasonal position runs Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM (40 hours/week) during HHB's summer season; mid-April to the end of October (subject to change based on operational needs), with required overtime, including weekends.
Wage rate: The hourly wage is $22.85 during probation per the Collective Agreement.
