Overview:


The main objective of this role are to develop and maintain best-in-class maintenance program at the cement plant to ensure a high level of availability of all equipment to drive excellent overall equipment efficiency The Maintenance Manager will administer and coordinate the mechanical, electrical, and mobile equipment maintenance activities across the plant. In carrying out the duties of this position, a primary objective is to improve the value of all Company assets at the Brookfield plant through increased reliability at efficient operating costs while allowing the safe operation of the equipment to meet production requirements within budget guidelines. The Maintenance Manager will lead a focused step-change in the plant\'s reliability performance by implementing improved preventative maintenance processes and developing a world-class overall maintenance program.


As part of the plant management team, the incumbent also contributes to establishing and enforcing policies and procedures concerning the maintenance department and general operations. The incumbent is responsible for developing effective employee relations, competent subordinates, and collaborative relations between the maintenance employees and other departments. Responsibilities:


Health and Safety:
  • Follows and ensures full compliance with Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensures all own employees and contractors meet Lafarge safety policy requirements. Acts as a role model for safe behaviour and holds the team accountable.

Operational:
  • Coordinate the preventive, predictive and proactive maintenance of all plant and infrastructure equipment.
  • Plans maintenance activities in a way that is compatible with the overall operation of the plant.
  • Planning is done across time spans long-term (4 Year Plant Development Plan and budget), mid-term outage planning and short-term (monthly and weekly activities).
  • Redress plant emergencies and breakdowns with the appropriate resources.
  • Embrace the root cause analysis (RCA) process and actively drive and promote it within the department and plant. Set objectives, guidelines and priorities for the department.
  • Report actions and results for his area through monthly activity letters and annual reports.
  • Works closely with Procurement to establish sourcing, competitive third-party service contracts, operational supplies and services contracts while managing spare parts inventories.
  • Adhere, implement and expand compliance to the group-wide Cement Industrial Framework (CIF) Maintenance program elements.
  • Maintain strong relationships with country, regional and global technical performance groups.
  • It ensures compliance with all policies, procedures and standards (ASTM, CSA, MQO, internal targets and limits).

Financial:
  • Provide cost budgeting, cost forecasting and control of department expenditures.
  • Maintains a firm overview of spending and planned to spending, interacting closely with the finance team.

Capital Projects :
  • Responsible for plant sustaining capital project development and management (Justification, Engineering support, Procurement, Cost Control, etc.) to support overall high ability at the minimum cost.
  • Participates in development projects with the plant Project Management team.
  • Develop procedures with suppliers to ensure equipment reliability, maximize their service, and minimize the cost and plant inventory.

People Management:
  • Provides leadership at the daily and weekly operations meetings to identify and resolve reliability issues with plant equipment.
  • Develops a staffing plan for the department to ensure adequate hourly and staff personnel levels that meet the current and future needs of the department and plant.
  • Ensure the competence and development of department employees (hourly and salaried) by initiating training, coaching, counselling or discipline procedures to respond to items identified in the performance reviews and day-to-day activities.
  • Monitor performance of department employees (hourly or salaried) through formal and informal reviews.
  • Coordinator all labour issues within the department in compliance with the Collective Agreement. Walks the floor.\xe2\x80\x99
  • Takes time to be present in all locations of the operations and to be open to all levels of the organization to communicate concerns.

Collaboration:
  • Works closely and collaboratively with other departments, Production, Quarry, Process, Quality, and Environment.
  • Promotes participation from department employees (hourly and salaried) through delegation of responsibilities, sharing information on the plant\xe2\x80\x99s and department\'s goals and constraints, and recognizing individual performance.

Environment and community:
  • Establishes the environment as a priority.
  • Ensures all local, provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Lafarge best practices, and the conditions of site permits are strictly adhered to.
  • Participate, support and respect Plant/Community initiatives: E.g. Tours, open houses etc. Handle complaints professionally and proactively.

Relationships with Others Jobs:

  • The role reports directly to the Plant Manager. The Maintenance Planner, Supervisor, EIT, Electrical Supervisor, and Systems Coordinator report directly to this position.
  • All hourly maintenance and electrical employees report indirectly to the incumbent. Critically important will be the ability to work collaboratively with the other Plant Leadership Team members and their reports.

Specific Accountabilities:
  • Safety Performance & Leadership following Lafarge guidelines
  • Lead the implementation of a standard maintenance process framework shifting the plant to a proactive/preventative mindset
  • Achieve Targeted KPIs (i.e. safety, OEE, reliability, volumes, MTBF, etc.)
  • Achieve Annual Operational Budgets
  • Detailed monthly Forecasting with periodic updates as conditions require
  • Identify and participate in the development of CAPEX Projects (sustaining projects mainly but also to be a support and coordinate other jobs with the Project Manager)
  • RCA process and solutions implementation
  • Staff Performance Management and Development
  • Positive reinforcement capabilities and also disciplinary actions, if required
  • Active member of the JHSC
  • Development & Implementation of Health & Safety Improvement Plan
  • Supporting the Union and Management meetings/negotiations

Dimensions:
  • Volume: 250,000 t clinker
  • Budget: $2-5 MCAD
  • Direct Reports: 5-6
  • Indirect Reports: Position is responsible for the Maintenance Department of 12 FTE
  • Areas: Full plant footprint
Qualifications:


Education and work experience:
  • B. S. degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial or similar) or, in the absence of this, a technologist diploma or trades certificate with significant (7-10 years) experience in the industry.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a shift from corrective to preventive maintenance in an industrial environment.
