Job Overview:



Reporting to the Maintenance Foreman, the Maintenance Assistant provides support for all Edmonton facilities through the performance of general shop floor and office duties. The Maintenance Assistant is expected to perform assigned duties that may include the use of hand tools to assist in cleaning the plant and adjoining facilities, equipment and tools, and to assist with other manual labor services as required.

Main Responsibilities:



Responsible for the general maintenance and upkeep of the facility including various housekeeping/janitorial duties associated with the shop, lunchroom, locker room, washroom and reception areas Conducts daily, weekly and monthly checks and verifies that an assortment of building and shop equipment are functional within parameters Yard maintenance including shoveling snow and debris pickup Uses, labels, and/or disposes of chemicals (cleaning agents), oils, paints, etc. according to WHMIS standards Conducts miscellaneous repair work where needed Conducts inspections of floor markings/labels and re-labels as appropriate Maintains stock of shop supplies (ie. rags, pads, spacers, welding wire, paint) Sorts and aids with coverall inventory Identifies and collects information for corrective action and/or repair

Basic Qualifications:



Successful completion of Grade 12 Basic knowledge of lean, TPM and capacities Basic knowledge of manufacturing principles Basic mechanical knowledge and hand tool use Understands basic production flow Awareness and commitment to quality, safety, and maintenance Strong communication skills Strong attention to detail and thorough execution of work Requires organizational skills and manual dexterity Strong service orientation including a proactive approach to problem solving Self motivated with the ability to work either independently or in a team environment Must be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities, objectives, deadlines or environments Take responsibility for individual actions and demonstrates initiative

Qualifications that may be considered an asset:



Operation of forklifts and overhead cranes

Understanding of blueprints, geometric tolerances and metallurgy

Lean Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement

Working Conditions:



Shop environment, working with various machines, equipment and hand tools

Moderately physical work; ability to lift up to 80 pounds

Long periods of standing, noise and high temperatures

PPE is required on the shop floor at all times (Ear/Eye protection & Steel-toed boots)

Please note that this is a safety-sensitive position and therefore qualified candidates will be required to complete drug/alcohol testing in accordance with our Fit for Duty policy. Qualified candidates will also be required to complete additional pre-employment testing
