POSITION OVERVIEW
The Maintenance Assistant is an organized, efficient, and detail-oriented individual who possesses excellent communication skills. As a key member of the maintenance team, the Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Supervisor in managing spare parts and consumables to minimize downtime, ensuring efficient production and maintenance operations.
SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Equipment operator's certification to operate forklift and pallet jack considered an asset.
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Strong computer skills with various applications and programs.
Strong communication skills: ability to provide clear, concise general instructions for team effectiveness.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to work independently with little supervision.
Ability to follow set procedures and efficiently and effectively prioritize work.
Analytical problem solving required (observing the problem, deciding the cause, and working out the most effective resolution).
Ability to react to problems as they arise minimizing production down time.
Grade 12 education with strong English (written and verbal) and mathematical skills.
Background in maintenance within a production facility considered an asset.
Experience using a preventative maintenance system considered an asset.
Purchasing, receiving and inventory control experience considered an asset.
Knowledge of food processing/manufacturing parts and materials.
This position is encouraged to independently bring forth innovate ideas and suggestions to improve production and/or the work environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Submit and maintain request for quotes and purchase orders to various vendors for equipment and supplies.
Ensure all maintenance purchase orders are received and provide coded receiving and packing slips to accounting.
Ensure inventory is organized and stored properly.
Manage inventory, ensuring accurate counts.
Ensuring there is an adequate supply of spares to replace broken or worn-out machine parts.
Update and maintain work orders, ensure employees are effectively using CMMS.
Complete required daily, weekly, and monthly reports and associated data entry for inventory control, etc.
Assist the Maintenance Supervisor in assigning work orders.
Communicate with team members to ensure all required paperwork is sufficiently completed on time.
Source supplies. Make purchase decisions based on the best interests of the company considering economic, social, and environmental impact(s).
Schedule and book maintenance-related training.
Conduct all interactions in a professional manner.
Responsible for the maintenance of accurate inventory SKUs.
Liaise with accounting department(s) ensuring timely billing discrepancy resolution, and invoice review to ensure products and services are in accordance with contracts and purchase orders.
Organize and schedule contractors as per company policy.
Ensure contractors comply with outside contractor responsibilities and sign-off.
Inform the Plant Manager/Operations Manager and Supervisors of any issues stemming from employees' activities that cause inventory errors and seek to help resolve the issues.
Notify the Plant Manager/Operations Manager and record any material issues that do not meet company quality standards.
Perform inventory and clean-up for all parts and tools to eliminate the possibility of contamination (fluids, grease etc.).
Attend all required training sessions and scheduled meetings.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
Be an active contributor to the food safety culture and ensure all food safety issues and conditions that could affect food safety are communicated with the Plant Manager/Operations Manager & QA Manager/HACCP Coordinator.
Promote a clean and tidy work environment.

Build and maintain positive working relationships with all levels of staff.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Western Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager.

HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL
Work in compliance with divisional and legislative health, safety and environmental procedures
Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods
Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts
Report defect in any equipment or protective device
Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks
Participate in all required health, safety and environmental training
Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor
Assist in investigating accidents/incidents
Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
Report workplace hazards to a leader or the health and safety committee
SWP (Safe Work Procedures)
Pre-Operation
Inspect required PPE and replace if necessary
Put on all required PPE
Inspect machinery and mobile equipment for functionality and operational safety mechanisms
During Operation
Follow machinery operating procedures as provided by the manufacturer
Practice proper lifting techniques
Take breaks in accordance with company policy/procedures
Workers must not be impaired by alcohol, drugs, or other causes
Workers must be aware of first aid locations
Workers must be aware of fire extinguisher locations and operating procedures
Post-Operation
Ensure equipment (PPE), machinery, and mobile equipment is fully disengaged, cleaned, stored, and maintained appropriately
Ensure work area is clean, neat and tidy
If an emergency situation occurs while conducting this task, or there is an equipment malfunction, shut the equipment off immediately and follow the lock out procedure.
REPORT ANY HAZARDOUS SITUATION TO YOUR SUPERVISOR/MANAGER IMMEDIATELY.
Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm
40 hours per week with opportunity for overtime.
