We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Machine Shop Manager to oversee daily operations within our manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of machining processes, and proficiency with various manufacturing technologies. This role involves managing a team of machinists, ensuring quality standards, and optimizing production workflows to meet company goals. Duties
Supervise and coordinate the activities of machine shop personnel, including machinists, welders, and fabrication specialists.
Oversee the setup, operation, and maintenance of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes, press brake machines, and other machining equipment.
Review blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate interpretation for manufacturing processes.
Program CNC machines using CAM programming and CNC programming techniques; troubleshoot issues related to CNC operations.
Conduct quality control inspections utilizing precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and other gauges to ensure parts meet specifications (GD&T).
Lead fabrication tasks including welding (MIG welding), assembly, and use of hand tools and power tools.
Implement lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance safety standards within the shop.
Maintain inventory of tooling, tooling calibration, and manage warehouse stock levels for raw materials and finished products.
Train team members on proper use of equipment, safety procedures, and quality standards.
Enforce safety protocols including forklift operation and proper handling of machinery to ensure a safe work environment.
Qualifications
Proven experience in manufacturing or machine shop management with strong mechanical knowledge.
Proficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, CNC programming (including CNC milling machines and CNC lathes), CAM programming, and Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).
Skilled in welding techniques such as MIG welding; experience with fabrication and assembly is preferred.
Familiarity with SolidWorks for design review and tooling development.
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, forklift trucks, and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and quality control standards.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Basic math skills necessary for precision measurement and machining calculations.
