The branch supports the management and stewardship of the natural resource sector through ambient monitoring data production, development of scientific/technical standards and guidelines and through the provision of expert environment and climate change advice and support. The branch advances the use and application of relevant knowledge and best practices and achieves its objectives through partnerships and shared stewardship with First Nations, partners, stakeholders, and communities. Work is guided by BC\xe2\x80\x99s water legislation, regulations and Living Water Smart initiative and plan. The section oversees program management, the provision of expert leadership; monitoring equipment procurement, installation, operation and maintenance; data collection, quality assurance, publication, trend analysis and reporting. The section co-manages the federal-provincial hydrometric network, delivers the provincial hydrometric program, and publishes operational standards and analytical products (i.e., Streamflow Inventory Reports). Through the sharing of environmental information, the section provides data science analytics to inform ministry policy, standards development, environmental monitoring approaches and support for science-based resource management decisions. The Hydrometrics Specialist plans, establishes and maintains hydrometric stations and networks; organizes and coordinates hydrologic, hydrometric, hydraulic, and hydrogeology scientific data; and provides expert professional and scientific advice to partners and external stakeholders on water management and related analyses.
