Job Description

Position Summary: Apex Surgical is an ophthalmology surgical center providing services, including cataract surgery to residents of Western Newfoundland. This position includes assisting in the daily clinical operations of the operating room in accordance with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador scope of practice. Participating in direct patient care including patient assessment and positioning, maintaining aseptic technique in the role of a scrub nurse, charting appropriate interventions according to organizations policies, and effectively communicating and reporting to appropriate team members. Minimum Requirements: \xc2\xb7 Graduation from an approved LPN educational program \xc2\xb7 Currently registered, or eligible to be registered, with CLPNNL \xc2\xb7 Current BCLS Certification \xc2\xb7 Prior Operating Room training and/or experience preferred \xc2\xb7 Satisfactory certificate of conduct Job Type: \xc2\xb7 8 hour shifts \xc2\xb7 Salary: $25.51-$28.33/hour \xc2\xb7 Casual Skills/Knowledge/Ability: Interpersonal: Above average communication skills. Maintains knowledge of current nursing scope of practice. Equipment, Work Aides: Familiar with standard surgical instruments, equipment, machinery and medical supplies within the OR. • Functions in the role of a scrub nurse:
• Applies knowledge and skills to the techniques and procedural steps of the intended surgical procedure.
• Responds appropriately to complications and unexpected events during the surgical procedure.
• Follows established policies and procedures for surgical counts.
• Initiates corrective actions when surgical counts are incorrect.
• Initiates corrective actions when breaks in technique occur.
• Ensures appropriate instrumentation is available for surgical procedure.
• Is knowledgeable about equipment use and functionality.
• Ensures safe handling and identification of medications on the sterile field.
• Utilizes aseptic technique and infection control principles.
• Reports significant patient information to medical staff appropriately.
• Provides safe medication administration.
• Actively participates, develops, and implements activities and measures promoting quality care.
• LPN may be cross-trained in the same skills as the preop and postop nurse in the clinic for the purpose of relieving.

Documentation

• Demonstrates knowledge of medical record policy and procedure in management of patient information, i.e. history, consult, informed consent.
• Participates in medical records QA.

Communication

• Effectively communicates and collaborates with inter-professional team to plan, implement and evaluate patient care, involving the patient\xe2\x80\x99s family.
• Act as a liaison for patients/family with members of the health care team.

Quality

• Understands and embraces change by actively participating in successful implementation.
• Maintains a safe environment for patients/family.

Job Types: Part-time, Casual Salary: $25.51-$28.33 per hour Benefits:
