Our Lower School Drama teacher lays the foundation for our K-12 Theatre Program by integrating classroom performance, theater vocabulary, history, technology, stage design, and movement. Students learn how to comfortably and confidently tell stories with and without words, to use self-expression through drama, and to perform for others. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plan and deliver engaging drama lessons to elementary students, fostering their creativity and self-expression. Develop age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans that align with the USM Theatre Program. Teach fundamental acting techniques, improvisation, movement, storytelling, and stage presence to enhance students\' performance skills. Provide constructive feedback to students, helping them improve their acting abilities and encouraging their confidence. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes teamwork, respect, and a passion for the performing arts. Collaborate with other teachers to integrate drama into cross-curricular activities and projects. Communicate effectively with parents and guardians, providing updates on students\' progress and involvement in drama activities. Stay informed about current trends and developments in drama education and incorporate innovative teaching methods into the classroom. Participate in professional development opportunities and attend faculty meetings to contribute to the overall school community. Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment, practicing discipline and behavior management strategies when necessary. Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve an optimal learning atmosphere in the classroom. Attend and participate in professional meetings, including collaborative teams, division meetings, and professional development. Initiate, implement, and coordinate a variety of program components, which will further enrich and strengthen the school music program in a collaborative manner. Complete other tasks as deemed appropriate by the Preschool and Lower School Administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrate a deep passion for theater education, and a commitment for fostering creativity and self-confidence in young students. Exhibit expertise in theatre arts, including acting techniques, kinesthetic movement, and performance forms. Show the ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom Ability to work collaboratively with others and maintain positive professional relationships Ability to read, comprehend, follow and give oral and written instructions Excellent writing and communication skills Strong interpersonal skills Demonstrate an openness to feedback and continuous growth Excellent organizational skills with a strong degree of self- direction and motivation High level of maturity, confidentiality, and assertiveness Capable of using tact and diplomacy in dealing with others Capable of competently operating technology Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, or Musical Theatre preferred 3-5 years teaching experience
