Job Description

The Calgary Food Bank is the first line of emergency food support for families and individuals facing crisis. As the city's main charitable food hub and the most accessible food bank we have the capacity to serve families, individuals, and organizations to fight hunger. Our Logistics and Inventory team was responsible for receiving, handling, and distributing 10.8 million pounds of food last year! (September 1, 2022 to August 31, 2023).

We are currently recruiting two community-minded, team-oriented individuals, to join our Operations team as

Logistics Assistant Summer Students

.

The Warehouse and Logistics Assistant will support the Calgary Food Bank operations with management of food donations flow to the warehouse and integrating Supply Chain Management skills and knowledge for optimum distribution.


We are not your typical warehouse! We work with up to 175 volunteers per day. Volunteers answer our emergency food hamper request line, sort donations, build and distribute hampers, and deliver food just to name a few of the 25 volunteer roles. A key responsibility of this position will be supporting and providing leadership to our incredible volunteers.

Responsibilities include:



Evaluating existing channels with a view to maximizing efficiency Determining optimum inventory control strategies Skill building through logistics management Ensuring safe food handling procedures are followed Participation in safety training and certification as required, including WHMIS, forklift operation and procedural guidelines

Tasks performed:



Supervise volunteers and community service workers Pallet movement within the warehouse using power equipment Record and track inventory within the warehouse Assist in the creation of food hampers Assist in receiving and recording donations Any other duties as required

Project Assignment



Each student will be asked to complete a project relating to either logistics or inventory as it relates to the Food Bank. This project will include a written and oral presentation at the end of the job assignment.

Qualifications



You possess a professional manner and excellent communication skills to interact with all levels within the organization. Strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, solid computer skills (including Microsoft 365) and the initiative to succeed in a busy and productive environment are required. You must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs. Power equipment experience is considered an asset.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:



This is a temporary full-time position, working 37.5 hours per week. Working conditions are normal for a warehouse environment. Candidate must be able to be on feet for extended periods of time and be able lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.

Be between the ages of 15 and 30 years at the start of employment. Be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident. Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
