Le Programme de soutien aux personnes handicapees s'engage a favoriser des facons novatrices de donner aux personnes en situation de handicap les moyens de poursuivre leur vision d'une vie epanouie. Nous sommes en train de mettre en oeuvre des pratiques exemplaires internationales qui respectent les droits de la personne et le choix afin d'ameliorer la facon dont les gens interagissent avec leurs communautes. Nous envisageons la Nouvelle-Ecosse comme un endroit ou les personnes en situation de handicap peuvent choisir la vie qu'elles souhaitent vivre, dans des communautes accueillantes, inclusives et solidaires. Nous sommes a la recherche de personnes passionnees et axees sur la communaute pour se joindre a nous en tant que coordonnateur ou coordonnatrice de secteur local (CSL), un role central nouvellement cree au coeur de notre mission de mener des mesures correctives a la suite des constatations de discrimination systemique a l'echelle locale.
Le Nova Scotia Human Rights Remedy (mesures correctives a la suite des constatations de discrimination systemique de la Nouvelle-Ecosse) est une initiative transformatrice de cinq ans qui vise a lutter contre la discrimination systemique a l'egard des personnes en situation de handicap dans la province. En tant que CSL, vous travaillerez aux cotes des personnes en situation de handicap, de leurs familles et des reseaux de soutien, aidant a etablir des liens solides et inclusifs avec les communautes locales, les services traditionnels et les partenaires cliniques. Votre role consistera a creer des relations de confiance qui ouvrent la possibilite aux personnes en situation de handicap de vivre une vie pleine et significative dans des communautes accueillantes et inclusives. Les CSL seront visibles et actifs dans les communautes, les aidant a accroitre leur inclusion et leur resilience grace a des liens communautaires continus et a la promotion de la collaboration.
Vous aiderez les personnes en situation de handicap et les membres de leurs reseaux de soutien a creer et a mettre en oeuvre des strategies qui representent leurs forces, leurs besoins et leurs objectifs uniques. En ecoutant et en comprenant vraiment ce qui compte le plus pour chaque personne, vous aiderez a renforcer sa confiance, sa resilience et son lien avec la communaute. Ce role consiste a marcher aux cotes des personnes avec empathie et attention, en utilisant une approche fondee sur les droits et en etant conscient des repercussions des traumatismes, tout en offrant un soutien et une coordination reflechis et personnalises.
En comprenant et en vous adaptant au style de communication de chaque personne, vous creerez des espaces surs ou les personnes peuvent s'exprimer et prendre des decisions eclairees sur leur avenir. Vous naviguerez dans un environnement qui n'est pas fonde sur des regles, mais axe sur les resultats, en veillant a ce que les services fournis soient toujours participatifs et favorables.
Responsabilites principales

En tant que CSL, vous ferez partie d'un changement transformateur en Nouvelle-Ecosse : aider a donner vie aux mesures correctives a la suite des constatations de discrimination systemique en aidant les personnes en situation de handicap a vivre pleinement et de facon autonome dans des communautes accueillantes. Vous travaillerez de maniere integree, centree sur la personne et inclusive, en etablissant des relations avec les personnes, les familles, les services et les organismes locaux. En faisant part de vos connaissances et en sensibilisant les personnes, vous contribuerez a renforcer les communautes et a creer plus d'occasions de tisser des liens d'appartenance.
Dans votre travail quotidien, vous travaillerez aux cotes des personnes qui planifient la vie qu'elles souhaitent, en les accompagnant dans les occasions et en les aidant a creer des reseaux de soutien solides et durables. Vous militerez egalement pour l'acces aux services et ameliorerez les liens avec les soutiens communautaires.
Les CSL travaillent en collaboration, etablissant des partenariats durables, ameliorant les reseaux de soutien naturels et travaillant en etroite collaboration avec leurs collegues du carrefour regional pour soutenir les personnes en situation de handicap. Dans tout ce que vous faites, vous ferez la promotion des valeurs de la planification geree par la personne, de la prise de decision favorable et des principes de la Convention relative aux droits des personnes handicapees des Nations Unies.
Par-dessus tout, vous contribuerez a favoriser une culture respectueuse et inclusive, tout en etablissant des relations positives avec les personnes en situation de handicap, les familles, les fournisseurs de services et la communaute neo-ecossaise en general.
Qualifications et experience

Un baccalaureat en travail social, en services sociaux, en developpement communautaire ou dans un autre domaine connexe et deux (2) ans d'experience dans un role pertinent de soutien aux personnes en situation de handicap, de developpement communautaire ou des services sociaux. Une combinaison equivalente de formation et d'experience sera consideree.
Vous devez avoir des liens solides au sein de la communaute locale ou demontrer votre capacite a etablir rapidement des relations et des partenariats au sein de la communaute. Un permis de conduire valide et l'acces a un moyen de transport fiable sont requis (en tant qu'employeur inclusif, nous nous engageons a envisager des mesures d'adaptation conformement a la Loi sur les droits de la personne). De plus, vous devez posseder ce qui suit :
Une expertise en planification et en coordination de soutien personnalisee et axee sur la personne.
De solides competences en communication et en relations interpersonnelles avec la capacite d'etablir un lien de confiance et de maintenir des relations positives. Une capacite averee a faciliter et a defendre l'inclusion communautaire et le renforcement des capacites.
Une experience en partenariat avec une variete d'intervenants et de membres de la communaute, y compris des fournisseurs de services. Une capacite d'adapter les approches en fonction des styles et des besoins de communication uniques des personnes.
Des competences demontrees en leadership dans la defense de l'autogestion et de la citoyennete inclusive des personnes.
Une experience averee dans la direction de partenariats et de collaborations pour ameliorer les reseaux de soutien communautaire.
Les atouts comprennent :
Une maitrise connexe achevee.
Des certifications ou des formations supplementaires en matiere de soins tenant compte des traumatismes, de droits des personnes en situation de handicap ou de mobilisation communautaire.
Nous evaluerons les qualites et competences enumerees ci-dessus a l'aide de l'un ou plusieurs des outils suivants : test ecrit, epreuve standardisee, presentation orale, entrevue, verification des references.
Conditions de travail

La personne qui sera selectionnee pour le poste de CSL se rendra a divers endroits dans sa region et sera presente dans les collectivites locales. Le role consiste a conduire, a entrer dans des residences privees et, occasionnellement, a soulever des charges. Des deplacements sont requis dans toute la region, dans des conditions meteorologiques variables.
Ce role exerce une pression mentale considerable sur la personne, ce qui exige une grande resilience personnelle pour repondre aux exigences emotionnelles. Vous naviguerez dans des situations complexes, travaillant aux cotes de personnes dans des moments de leur vie a forte charge emotionnelle ou stressants. Cet environnement souligne l'importance de l'adaptabilite et de la resilience emotionnelle.

About Our Opportunity

We're seeking passionate and community-driven individuals to join us as Local Area Coordinators (LACs), a newly created and pivotal role at the heart of our mission to deliver meaningful action towards the Human Rights Remedy at the local level.
The Nova Scotia Human Rights Remedy is a transformative, five-year initiative that is aimed at addressing systemic discrimination against people with disabilities in the province. As a Local Area Coordinator, you'll work alongside people with disabilities, their families, and support networks, helping to build strong, inclusive connections with local communities, mainstream services, and clinical partners. Your role will focus on creating trusting relationships that open opportunities for people with disabilities to live full, meaningful lives in welcoming and inclusive communities. LACs will be visible and active in communities, supporting them to grow in inclusion and resilience through ongoing community connection and fostering collaboration.
You'll support people with disabilities and those in their support networks to create and carry out strategies that reflect their unique strengths, needs, and goals. By truly listening and understanding what matters most to each person, you'll help build their confidence, resilience, and connection to community. This role is all about walking alongside people with empathy and care, using a rights-based approach and being mindful of the impacts of trauma while offering thoughtful, tailored support and coordination.
Understanding and adapting to everyone's communication style, you will create safe spaces where individuals can express themselves and make informed decisions about their future. You will navigate an environment that is not rules-based but outcome-driven, ensuring that the services provided are consistently engaging and supportive.
Primary Accountabilities

As a LAC, you'll be part of a transformative shift in Nova Scotia - helping bring the Human Rights Remedy to life by supporting people with disabilities to live full, self-directed lives in welcoming communities. You'll work in a way that's integrated, person-centered, and inclusive, building relationships with individuals, families, services, and local organizations. By sharing knowledge and raising awareness, you'll help strengthen communities and create more opportunities for connection and belonging.
In your day-to-day work, you'll work alongside individuals as they plan for the life they want, coaching them through opportunities and supporting them in building strong, lasting support networks. You'll also advocate for access to services and enhance connections to community supports.
Local Area Coordinators work collaboratively, developing sustainable partnerships, enhancing natural support networks and working closely with their Regional Hub colleagues to support individuals with disabilities. Through everything you do, you'll promote the values of person-directed planning, supportive decision-making, and the principles of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Above all, you'll help foster a respectful and inclusive culture, while building positive relationships with people with disabilities, families, service providers, and the wider Nova Scotian community.
Qualifications and Experience
---------------------------------
A completed Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Community Development, or other related field and two (2) years of experience in a relevant role supporting individuals with disabilities, community development, or social services. An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
You must have strong existing connections within the local community, or demonstrate an ability to quickly build relationships and partnerships within the community. A valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation are required (as an inclusive employer, we are committed to considering accommodations in accordance with the Human Rights Act). In addition, you:
Have expertise in person-centered, individualized planning and support coordination.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and maintain positive relationships. Proven ability to facilitate and advocate for community inclusivity and capacity building
.Experience partnering with a variety of community stakeholders and members, including service providers. Ability to adapt approaches based on individuals' unique communication styles and needs.
Demonstrated leadership skills in advocating for individuals' self-direction and inclusive citizenship.
Proven track record in leading partnerships and collaborations to enhance community support networks.
Assets include:
A completed related Master's degree
Additional certifications or training in trauma-informed care, disability rights, or community engagement.
We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
Working Conditions
----------------------
The LAC will travel to various locations in their regional area having a presence in local communities. The role involves driving, entering private residences, and occasional lifting. Travel is required throughout the region, under varying weather conditions.
This role places considerable mental pressure on the individual, requiring high personal resiliency to meet emotional demands. You will navigate complex situations, working alongside individuals through potentially emotional or stressful times in their lives. This environment underscores the importance of adaptability and emotional resilience.
