30 hours per week (Immediate Start)

RATE OF PAY:

$39.72 per hour

EMPLOYMENT TERM:

1 year with possible extension

JOB SUMMARY:



The LINC Instructor is responsible for teaching English language to a class of Newcomers to Canada applying LINC Curriculum Guidelines, CLB documents and PBLA principles.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

:

Teaching a class of 15-20 newcomers to Canada applying LINC Curriculum Guidelines, CLB documents and PBLA principles

Conducts classes in a respectful, culturally sensitive and engaging manner, foster self-directed learning

Develop and maintain an anti-bias sensitive classroom atmosphere where participants feel welcome and interested in learning

Provide client-centered, task-based, communicative programming

Design PBLA based module plans, assessment tasks as well as daily motivational lesson plans

Conduct on-line classes when needed using Zoom and Google classroom

Conduct initial and on-going assessments of learners' needs and progress. Provide feedback as well as continuously redesign the course depending on learners' needs

Orient students to portfolios as a learning and assessment tool

Prepare and administer assessments and tests to evaluate students' progress

Incorporate a variety of learning materials into lesson plans to meet different learning styles

Assign appropriate Benchmarks and promote/graduate students

Organize special events to enhance learners' participation and cultural experience

Participate in LINC and agency events: AGM, UW fundraising, Summer Fest, cultural celebrations for students

Participate in continuous quality improvements by reviewing students' feedback and taking part in discussions at monthly meetings

QUALIFICATIONS:



Completion of post-secondary degree or diploma or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.

TESL Ontario accreditation

Minimum 2 (two) years of LINC/ESL teaching experience with adults at various levels

Strong pedagogical skills and creative abilities

Demonstrated understanding and application of Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA)

Good knowledge of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and ability to benchmark students' progress

Previous experience teaching online courses and knowledge of virtual teaching platforms (ex. Zoom, Google classroom). Ability to provide technical troubleshooting is an asset.

Computer skills with a knowledge of LINC/ESL educational software, MS Word, and Internet

Experience working in a multicultural environment. Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of adult immigrants and refugees.

Outstanding customer service orientation, with the ability to diffuse tense situations

Superior interpersonal skills, ability to interact with all levels in a professional, positive manner and to building trusting relationships and be a team player

Ability to work independently with solid time management and organizational skills, punctual, reliable, disciplined

Criminal record check for vulnerable sector will be conducted on hire

Must be fully vaccinated against COVID- 19
