Job Title: LINC Instructor - Evening (Temporary)

Status: Temporary, Part Time (Union position)
Hours: 11.25 hours/ week
Schedule: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm (plus 1 hour of prep flex)

Grid: 14P
Rate: $37.55/hr - $47.46/hr (Starting at $37.55/hr)

The Opportunity:

The ESL Instructor is responsible for planning and delivering ESL instruction to adult students at the beginner to intermediate levels, CLB Literacy to CLB 8. The primary duties for this position include assessing and monitoring student progress, development of curriculum and teaching materials and providing settlement information to students.

The key areas of responsibility are:

  • Have working knowledge of the philosophy and teaching objectives of the LINC program as stipulated by IRCC (Immigration, Refugees Citizenship Canada)
  • Ensure students achieve the outcomes set by IRCC.
  • Prepare, plan and deliver settlement and English language instruction.
  • Develop and prepare instructional objectives and lesson plans, which conform to the program curriculum.
  • Deliver and prepare multi-leveled, student-centered, lesson material and teaching aids.
  • Monitor and record student progress on a regular basis in order to maintain continuous quality improvement standards.
  • Maintain student files and portfolios.
  • Handle all student-related concerns as outlined in the LINC Program Guidelines and Procedures.
  • Keep the Manager and the LINC Coordinator informed of significant developments relating to students and the LINC program.
  • Perform required administrative duties; take attendance, complete monthly reports, submit termination and graduation forms, field trip forms, etc.
  • Participate in the on-going development of program curriculum and policies by attending and actively participating in team meetings and CD meetings.
  • Stay abreast of current developments in the field of Adult Education and TESL and continue to upgrade professional skills to meet current standards.
  • Stay aware of settlement issues in the local community.
  • Adhere to Society and personnel policies, procedures and practices.
  • Attend DIVERSEcity meetings and participate in multi-disciplinary committee work.
Qualified candidates will possess:
  • Baccalaureate degree from a recognized university and TESL certification from a training institute recognized by TESL Canada.
  • Relevant and recent experience in Adult ESL Education, ELSA, or LINC required.
  • Knowledge of CLBs and PBLA an asset.
  • Knowledge of settlement issues an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop teaching materials appropriate to the curriculum of the program and to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Exceptional written and oral English language communication skills.
  • Possess skills in facilitating group discussion and problem solving.
  • Ability to work both independently and cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Ability to take initiative where required.
  • Must be able to acquire and maintain a valid First Aid certificate.
