Your opportunity:





The Office of the Vice Dean, Research & Health Sciences Education oversees research undertaken for the Temerty Faculty of Medicine and coordinates with its counterparts at the affiliated hospital research institutes for clinical research. This includes: grant proposal development, administering internal funding allocations, collecting and reporting on research productivity metrics, and managing core research facilities.



The Microscopy Imaging Laboratory (MIL) is a core imaging service in Temerty Medicine providing electron microscopy and fluorescence microscopy imaging capabilities to students and scientists in basic, medical and industrial research. It has recently expanded to include CryoEM services. The MIL maintains a complete lab for the preparation of CryoEM, TEM and SEM samples including fixation, resin embedding, thin sectioning, critical point drying and gold sputter coating.



As the Light Microscopy Coordinator, you will work with the MIL Scientific Directors, Research Associate and Lab Technician to coordinate efficient operation of the MIL facility. You will provide training and demonstrate procedures to students and/or employees on lab techniques, experimental procedures and protocols. You are also responsible for tracking the equipment usage, liaising with vendors to coordinate services and resolve issues and scheduling service technician based on priority.







Your responsibilities will include:



Coordinating the installation and implementation of new equipment Developing and editing standard operating procedures Tracking service usage data and collaborate on billing processes Drafting instructional materials for students and/or lab users Troubleshooting issues with lab equipment and/or workstations and coordinating routine maintenance of lab equipment Generating reports Providing safety training and ensuring compliance to lab safety procedures and standards

Essential Qualifications:



Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Minimum five years of relevant laboratory experience Demonstrated experience supporting labs, including setup of equipment and reagent preparation for various types of lab experiments Demonstrated experience with microscope equipment and imaging techniques, including but not limited to:, laser scanning microscopy, confocal and deconvolution fluorescence microscopy, and regular bright and dark field light microscopy Experience delivering technical support, training, and troubleshooting to users Experience producing and analyzing complex images and related data sets Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, experience applying lab safety and protocol procedures High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Must be a solid team player with excellent interpersonal skills and exceptional oral and written English communication skills

USW Pay Band 11 - $76,577. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $97,928. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
