The Lift Truck Driver plays a crucial role in the smooth and efficient movement of material within the facility. This role requires skilled operation of forklifts and other material-handling equipment to safely and efficiently load, unload, and transport products between shipping, receiving, and storage areas. The Lift Truck Driver not only ensures that materials are accurately prepared for shipment according to customer specifications but also plays a key role in maintaining inventory accuracy, yard cleanliness, and safety compliance. Additionally, this role requires close coordination with team members across departments, effective communication with drivers and customers, and a high level of attention to detail in handling shipping paperwork, payments, and inventory documentation. By upholding company policies and safety standards, the Lift Truck Driver contributes to a productive, organized, and secure workplace environment.

Essential Functions:



Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, stack, and organize materials in the shipping area. Load and unload shipments onto trucks or other transportation vehicles, ensuring proper stacking and securing items to prevent damage during transit, following established procedures and guidelines. Retrieve products from storage areas and prepare them for shipping according to customer orders or instructions, verifying the accuracy of items and quantities before loading onto transport vehicles. Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for damage, discrepancies, or quality issues. Report any concerns or defects to supervisors and follow appropriate procedures for resolution. Collaborate with schedulers, supervisors, and other team members to coordinate shipping activities, and communicate with customers, truck drivers, or freight forwarders to ensure smooth loading and unloading operations. Complete shipping-related paperwork, including bills of lading, shipping manifests, and delivery receipts. Maintain accurate records of loaded, unloaded, and shipped items. Process customer payments using the company's payment terminal, complete required administrative paperwork, and notify Accounts for coordination as needed. Check shipping emails and respond promptly as required. Use VCC Max software to take and record pictures of shipments. Verify all loads for accuracy before release to prevent errors. Maintain a clean yard by removing waste, wood, steel straps, and other debris. Operate a bobcat to empty steel bins and perform other yard maintenance tasks as needed. Complete the forklift safety checklist daily, perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts and equipment, and report any safety concerns or malfunctions to supervisors. Adhere to safety protocols, company policies, and industry standards for forklift operation and material handling. Wear required high-visibility clothing, personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats (in the plant), and safety glasses to ensure personal safety. Participate in periodic physical inventory checks and assist in maintaining accurate inventory records by conducting cycle counts, verifying stock levels, and reporting discrepancies to the appropriate personnel. Perform any additional job-related duties as reasonably assigned by the production manager, in accordance with company policies and applicable employment regulations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:



Complete all training as required by the Company. Forklift license required.

Qualifications:



To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential functions satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in forklift operation or warehouse management are preferred. Valid forklift operator certification. Proven experience as a forklift operator or in a similar shipping and receiving role. Proficient in operating various types of forklifts and material handling equipment. Familiarity with manufacturing operations, shipping processes, and inventory management systems. Good understanding of safety protocols and ability to follow safe operating practices. Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy loads and operate equipment for extended periods. Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills. Effective communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Education and/or Experience:



High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Reasoning Ability:



Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Mathematical Skills:



Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages.

Language Skills:



Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in English. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Physical Demands:



The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to twist, reach, bend, push, pull, sweep, shovel, and lift. Lifting requirements include lifting various sized and shaped material from waist to chest height. Some floor to chest and overhead lifting required. Required weight range for two people ranges from 2 to 100 pounds. Work 8 hours up to 10 hours per day, 5 days per week and overtime as needed.

Work Environment:



The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside work, sometimes working in an unheated building, in various temperature and weather conditions. Vapors and fumes expelled from various process tanks, sulphuric acid, zinc ammonium chloride, zinc and chromate quench, may be irritant at times. However they are well within their regulatory limits.

The employee will be required to wear all safety equipment as mandated by Company Safety Policies.

Safety Requirements:



The employee must comply with all health and safety policies and programs enforced by the Company. Employee should be aware of rules and regulations around JHSC and its members, additionally understand the environment they will be working in and potential hazards within it. Pay: $27.19-$27.98 per hour
