Reporting to the Aquatic Supervisors and under the leadership of an Aquatic Team Lead, you will perform as a professional and dedicated team player in providing the best aquatic service to the community.It is a requirement as Full-Time Lifeguard Instructors at RRC to be available to work rotations at Sonny Flett Aquatic Centre located in Fort Chipewyan or any other RRC facility.Your Responsibilities\xc2\xb7 Performs preventative lifeguarding duties in accordance with national standards and internal policies and procedures.\xc2\xb7 Prevents injuries by providing public education and responds appropriately when first aid treatment and/or emergency response/rescue is required.\xc2\xb7 Maintains the general cleanliness and safety of the aquatic centre area including change rooms and immediately rectifies unclean and/or potentially hazardous conditions in a proactive nature, whenever possible.\xc2\xb7 Carries out opening and closing procedures appropriately.\xc2\xb7 Completes reports accurately and in a timely manner.\xc2\xb7 Organizes and leads games and activities for members and guests.\xc2\xb7 Sets up, takes down and safely stores equipment and bulkheads according to a prearranged schedule and does so in a timely and cooperative manner.\xc2\xb7 Provides exceptional service to aquatic centre users.\xc2\xb7 Conducts routine safety inspections.\xc2\xb7 Performs wrist band checks.\xc2\xb7 Some administrative duties, including but not limited to; maintain accurate, up to date work sheet, progress sheets and records for participants as well as completing evaluations.\xc2\xb7 Create, develop, and teach all courses required based on qualifications.\xc2\xb7 Teach a minimum of one set of lessons per lesson set.\xc2\xb7 Instructs classes/courses according to program standards and internal policies and procedures utilizing continuous evaluation methods and completes associated administrative materials in a timely and professional manner.\xc2\xb7 Liaise with parents and children on instruction progress and pool rules.\xc2\xb7 Will attend all scheduled in-service training and perform monthly skills.\xc2\xb7 Establishes and maintains a cooperative/collaborative working relationship with other departments and Rural Facilities within the RRC through positive actions and communication.\xc2\xb7 All other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS: Education & Experience\xc2\xb7 Current Intermediate First Aid (Standard First Aid)/CPR C/AED Certificate\xc2\xb7 Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard.\xc2\xb7 Lifesaving Swim Instructor Certificate.\xc2\xb7 Red Cross Youth Leader is an asset.\xc2\xb7 Red Cross First Aid Instructor Certificate is an asset.\xc2\xb7 Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certificate is an asset.\xc2\xb7 Group Fitness Instructor Certificate is an asset.\xc2\xb7 Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor Certificate is an asset.QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of lifeguarding principles and practices.\xc2\xb7 Knowledge of aquatic instructional programs and evaluation standards.\xc2\xb7 Thrive in a team environment, enjoy working as a team member as well as independently.\xc2\xb7 A strong dedication to community service.\xc2\xb7 Ability to promote water safety and drowning prevention through public education and special events with all facility users.\xc2\xb7 Ability and willingness to be flexible in a changing work environment.\xc2\xb7 Excellent written and verbal communication skills.\xc2\xb7 Ability to recognize and act to resolve potential problems proactively.OTHER REQUIREMENTS\xc2\xb7 Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector checkWORKING CONDITIONS\xc2\xb7 While performing the essential functions of this job some tasks involve the ability to exert very moderate physical effort, typically involving some combination of standing, standing at a height, sitting, sitting at a height, crouching, walking, climbing, swimming, performing work while wet and/or performing work while wet for extended periods of time.\xc2\xb7 Emergency tasks and regular staff training events involve the performance of physically demanding work, which may involve some combination of running, climbing and/or swimming and may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling heavy objects including distressed persons on land or in the water, performing work while wet and/or performing work while wet for extended periods of time.\xc2\xb7 Lifeguard Instructors must maintain the ability to demonstrate \xe2\x80\x9cMust See\xe2\x80\x9d items from the appropriate governing body to the satisfaction of the employer at all times of scheduled employment.\xc2\xb7 Safe lifting, carrying and rescue techniques and the use of a rescue aid in the water and the coordination of rescue with a second rescuer and a rescue aid in the water, when possible, are required by the employer.\xc2\xb7 Safe use of employee protective equipment is required by the employer.\xc2\xb7 This position requires a flexible schedule including statutory holidays, early morning, late night, and weekend work.SAFETYAll employees are responsible and accountable for Regional Recreation Corporation\xe2\x80\x99s health and safety policy.
