Every day, more than 1,200 people work with the YMCAs of Quebec network, providing a variety of services that create positive change in people's lives.
Camp YMCA Kanawana is Quebec's oldest residential summer camp offering leading-edge programming and traditional YMCA values-based camping. Staff members live on site for the duration of the group's stay. Salaries include food and lodging.
Lifeguards are responsible for leading swimming activities for campers and participants, and ensuring their safety. They are also responsible for managing the swimming and aquatic sports areas and keeping track of and maintaining equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure the safety, security, health, and well-being of campers, staff, and program participants at all times;
Work as a team with counsellors and other staff members;
Follow policies regarding program delivery, care of campers, and staff conduct at all times;
Participate in compulsory staff training;
Organize and lead specialized activities for campers (i.e. Rock climbing, ropes course, boating, archery, etc.);
Make sure that program areas and activities are safe, fun, engaging, and well run;
Ensure equipment is safe and in excellent condition;
Oversee equipment maintenance and ensure equipment is properly stored;
Attend staff meetings as required;
Report any safety hazards or maintenance deficiencies to the Coordinator and Director;
Adhere to the YMCA's Child Protection Policies and Procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
Has a valid First Aid/CPR certificate;
Has a valid National Lifeguard certificate;
Has experience working with youth or in a camp setting;
Fluency in spoken and written French (required).
Fluency in spoken and written English (required based on operational needs related to clientele and communications).
Has experience working as a lifeguard (as asset);
Has a National Lifeguard Waterfront certificate (an asset);
Has no criminal record in connection with employment.
