River House is a 'Permanent Supportive Housing' program providing residential housing and 24-hour wrap-around supports to 10 high-acuity, chronically homeless males who struggle with chronic addictions, mental and/or physical health issues. The program provides restorative care and support with the goal of achieving stabilization and progression to recovery when possible. River House is regulated under Alberta Health and is classed as a 'Licensed Supportive Living Facility'. Through direct supports - such as the delivery of a 'Managed Alcohol Program' -and in-reaching partners, River House assists the individuals in the program to manage their active use of substances and reach their maximum level of functioning, independence and comfort.
Some Life Support Worker Tasks Could Include: Assisting residents with the care and responsibility of the facility and their belongings. Teaching and modeling life-skills. Medication assistance. Personal/hygienic care. Social & leisure activities. Program development/assistance. Mediation/de-escalation. Advocacy. Food Preparation
Requirements:
- A degree or diploma or enrolled in coursework related to human services (those with relevant professional experience and/or lived experience will also be considered).
- Preferred experience and understanding of addictions / mental health issues & familiarity with Housing First and Harm Reduction philosophies.
- Ability to work in a team-based setting, excellent communication skills, & compassionate approach.
- Ability to obtain clear 'Child Intervention Check' & 'Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sectors'.
- Valid Class 5 (Non-GDL) Driver's License
