Responsibilities:
oThe SILP worker will support individuals in a variety of settings. This may include the supported individuals' own apartments/homes, shelters, other CBO homes, and outreach (Homeless).
oThe SILP worker position is a harm reduction model.
oSILP workers support individuals that may have complex diagnosis and behavior.
oThe SILP Worker will support individuals by promoting their involvement with family, friends, advocates and the community to ensure that their comfort, safety, and health requirements are being met. The SILP Worker will also encourage individuals to develop individual skills, talents and abilities so that they may have maximum control over their own life.
oSILP Workers are responsible for ensuring that the service is delivered in a caring and respectful manner, in accordance with relevant Agency policies and industry standards.
oUnder the direction of the Program Manager, the SILP Worker will be responsible for supporting and maintaining a home-like environment for individuals to live independently. The SILP Worker will be responsible for maintaining and promoting physical care, menu planning and preparation, medication administration, day-to-day house management, record keeping, etc.
oBe required to drive to go meet up with, or transport clients within the community to meet their daily needs.
oAdvocate for clients' rights and access to community resources.
oWork closely with families, other caregivers, and external agencies to enhance clients' quality of life.
oMaintain accurate and detailed records of client interactions, progress, and incidents.
oComplete necessary paperwork related to client care and funding requirements.
Qualifications:
1-2years of experience as a Disability Support Worker or in a related field.
Familiarity with disability support services, mental health, or social work.
Experience working with diverse populations/cultures.
Skills:
Compassion, patience, and empathy.
Strong communication and active listening skills.
Ability to adapt to changing situations and respond effectively to emergencies.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent (Certification or diploma in a relevant field is preferred).
Licence/Certification (Required):
Recent clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check.
Experienced Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License.
Current First Aid and CPR training.
