Your Opportunity:
Public Health Postpartum Community Services operates within the Calgary urban area, and offers clinical, social, educational and resource support for families with newborns, supporting a safe, healthy beginning. The services are aimed around postpartum health care, screening, and family-centered care promoting healthy choices. Under the direction of the Assistant Head Nurse, the PPCS LPN provides health assessment and screening, direct care, support, follow up and/or referrals for postpartum /primary caregivers and newborns within the first few weeks following birth. The PPCS LPN works independently, with Registered Nurse consultation as needed, to provide family centered care in a clinic setting as well as virtually. The PPCS LPN works collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary health care team and key community partners across the Calgary Zone to facilitate continuity of care and wrap around supports for the patient and family. The PPCS LPN demonstrates sound decision making, problem solving, critical thinking and strong patient teaching skills., as well as respectful team collaborative communication skills. The LPN takes initiative, working independently, and demonstrates effective time management and appropriate prioritization in a rapidly changing environment. The PPCS LPN engages patients in their plan of care, providing teaching and advocacy to support Patient knowledge and needs. This position is part of Primary Care Alberta. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Recent experience in postpartum maternal and infant care, in acute care with a minimum of 5 years full-time equivalent. Demonstrated experience in performing independent Postpartum and Newborn Assessments, both stable and complex. Demonstrated ability to prioritize care using the principle of Patient and Family Centered Care, and clinical urgency. Experience with family/Patient teaching related to infant and maternal postpartum care. Experience with Microsoft Office with proficient computer and keyboarding skills Demonstrated ability to conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at the point of care within an electronic medical record. Demonstrated effective time management, organizational, and critical thinking skills. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to successfully manage a fast-paced environment with various stressors. Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally in the English language. Ability to bend, twist, kneel and respond safely and quickly to a variety of emergency situations. Physically able to perform all duties in a clinic setting. This includes the ability to stand for long periods, sit for long periods at a computer screen, squat, maintain static positions, lifting and carrying up to 15 lbs. Independently perform the skills of a certified BLS provider and work collaboratively in an emergency.

Preferred Qualifications:

Connect Care documentation knowledge and experience. Level 1 and 2 Breastfeeding Courses. Certification as an IBCLC. Other certifications/degrees in a related field. Knowledge of Community Resources for socially at-risk Patients (newcomers to Canada, low income, addictions and mental health, etc.).
