As a regulated member of the collaborative interdisciplinary team the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care and practices to full scope as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). This position also involves actively participating in the development and coordination of discharge planning and providing leadership to HCAs on the nursing team. In addition, the following are core competencies of the LPN: ability to maintain effective working relationships with the interdisciplinary team, ability to work independently while maintaining collaboration with team members, ability to adapt quickly to changing and fluctuating workloads and conditions and maintain accountability for practice. The LPN displays continued critical thinking, time management, and communication skills, along with the ability to respond to new needs in the role as they arise with initiative and self-direction. The LPN will float to support teams throughout the entire Medicine Program.
