Position Summary:
This position provides front-line library services that fall within the broad categories of reference and information services, instructional services, borrowing services, information technology (IT) and other user services. Services may be provided from a variety of locations in the Archer Library and across campus, supported by emerging technologies that connect staff with Library users from locations beyond the Library.
Areas of Responsibility and Typical Duties:

  • Conducts reference interviews in person and through a variety of electronic means. Ensures the needs of Library users are fully met, and that reference services are provided in a seamless manner. Refers questions as appropriate.
  • Delivers general library orientation sessions and provides library tours. Provides input into the planning and development of general library orientation and general instruction sessions. Facilitates and/or delivers subject-specific library instruction sessions as appropriate.
  • Participates in the provision of a broad range of liaison support services to various units on campus.
  • Provides a range of borrowing services, including circulating materials, working with patron records, handling fines, issuing library cards, working with reserves, etc. Refers questions as appropriate.
  • Assists clients with IT-related questions and problems, including diagnosing hardware and software problems and initiating a course of action to provide solutions. Refers questions as appropriate.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of Library policies and procedures.
  • May include some supervisory duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
Position Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited university combined with five years of relevant library experience directly related to the duties described;
  • Highly developed teaching/facilitating experience;
  • Experience in using electronic resources;
  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office programs and a variety of web applications;
  • Demonstrated experience working in complex databases such as: Banner and Alma/Primo or other similar databases
  • Exceptional ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the public;
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, exercising a considerable degree of judgment and discretion regarding sensitive and confidential matters and materials;
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Superior problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, interpret and implement policies and procedures and apply sound judgment without detailed instruction or review;
  • Capacity to handle detailed work accurately;
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt to new technologies.
Physical Demands
At times, may need to carry boxes up to 35 lb and/or push library book trucks Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5 Salary Range $50,960.00 - $68,796.00 Annually Status Permanent Work Hours
Variable hours of work that may include evenings and/or weekends.

Current hours are:
Fall & Winter (Sept – April); Monday to Friday 8:45am – 5:00pm
Spring/Summer (May – August); Monday to Friday 8:45am – 5:00pm Duration (if Term/Temporary) Full-Time/Part-Time Full Time Preference Posting Target Posting Not Targeted
