The University of Toronto Libraries system is the largest academic library in Canada and is consistently ranked in the top ten among academic research libraries in North America. The system consists of 40 libraries located on three university campuses: St. George, Mississauga, and Scarborough. This array of college libraries, special collections, and specialized libraries and information centres supports the teaching and research requirements of over 300 graduate programs, more than 70 professional programs, and about 700 undergraduate degree programs. In addition to more than 12 million volumes in 341 languages, the library system currently provides access to millions of electronic resources in various forms and over 31,000 linear metres of archival material. The Opportunity

The University of Toronto Scarborough Library invites applications for a dynamic, highly-motivated person for the position of Science Liaison Librarian. The successful candidate will bring creativity and enthusiasm to the UTSC Library\'s liaison program which integrates the library into the teaching, learning and research activities at the University of Toronto Scarborough. This position will complement the UTSC Library\'s strategic commitment to enhance research activity and inspire inclusive excellence in undergraduate and graduate instruction and reference services. Reporting to the Chair of the Liaison Librarians and with support from the Head of Research and Digital Initiatives, the Liaison Librarian, Science is responsible for liaison activities to multiple science departments as needed. The incumbent will develop collections, plan services, provide information literacy instruction; develop and sustain a deep knowledge of the research and teaching programs in scientific disciplines; and develop and manage subject and reference collections related to scientific areas of study. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with other librarians with liaison responsibilities in the sciences to facilitate the development of a team-based structure for liaison activities.

The candidate will:

  • Provide instruction on library resources and the research process.
  • Conduct reference and research consultations with students and faculty.
  • Create and maintain learning objects, including course and subject LibGuides.
  • Develop and manage UTSC Library collections related to the sciences.
  • Promote library services, resources, and events to sciences faculty, staff, and students.
  • Serve on library committees and working groups as appropriate.
  • Remain current with and implement, as required, emerging concepts in scholarly communication, research data management, and instructional technology, and collaborate with functional experts as appropriate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A degree from an accredited Master\'s level program in library and information studies
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, anti-racism and accessibility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of information literacy and how they can be applied in an academic setting in-person and online.
  • Demonstrated research skills and knowledge of key databases in the sciences.
  • Outstanding communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of academic library services, trends, and best practices within science librarianship specifically, and in academic librarianship generally.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment while managing a complex workload in a timely, effective manner.
  • Initiative, a flexible attitude, and ability to adapt to a changing environment.
  • Comfortable learning new technologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with teaching and research support in the sciences and life sciences in an academic library.
  • A broad knowledge of collections and resources specifically in sciences and life sciences.
  • Outreach experience promoting library services and resources.
  • Experience working collaboratively with faculty and students.
  • Experience creating online learning objects, such as LibGuides, videos, or tutorials.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies in the sciences or life sciences, such as knowledge synthesis (e.g. systematic or scoping reviews) and knowledge translation.
Salary and Terms of Appointment:

It is anticipated that this position will be filled at the Librarian I or II level, subject to review and experience. Minimum salary: LIB I: $76,403; LIB II: $79,720; (Salary is dependent on rank at hire and qualifications). This is a 1 year contractually-limited term appointment until with a possibility of extension.
