Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Dental Health Programs, and accountable to the Senior Director of Clinical Programs, the Level II Certified Dental Assistant (Level II CDA) will be responsible for providing both clinical, and administrative related aspects of the dental program including interaction with clients and front-line staff to ensure achievement of program objectives. The Level II CDA will prioritize actions, and provide necessary clinical services and Infection, Prevention and Control. The role works collaboratively with the dental team to ensure comprehensive oral health care.
Primary Responsibilities
Prepares all operatories and equipment, including infection control measures, at the start of the day and between clients, set up and close the dental operatory daily, maintaining an organized work environment
Performs all duties according to the ODAA Certification, and HARP certification requirements
Records and assists with maintaining client charts, registration forms, medical histories, clinic progress notes and clinical records
Provides patient education and prevention, including oral hygiene instruction, and daily oral hygiene care to clients, families and caregivers
Supports ordering, inventory, and equipment maintenance, perform sterilization, routine practices, and additional precautions as per IPAC requirements
Performs team support such as clinical team assistance, administrative assistance and reception support, such as confirmations, filing, scanning, faxing as required
Participates in oral health promotion, presentations, outreach, advocacy, community education, and resource development as directed
Some evenings, weekends, and local travel may be required
Required Qualifications
Certified Level II training and in good standing with the ODAA certification, and HARP certified
Minimum of two (2) years' experience working in a busy dental office environment
Superior knowledge and competence in current clinical techniques, and procedures including infection control measures as per IPAC requirements and Public Health Ontario
Superior knowledge of dental, laboratory, digital x-ray, and charting procedures, as well as oral hygiene preventive practices
Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs including the Ontario Seniors Dental Care program (OSDCP) and the Canadian Dental Care Program (CDCP), and working in a community dental clinic or a public health environment an asset
Ability to provide compassionate, respectful, non-judgmental and culturally competent care to vulnerable populations focusing on diversity and inclusion
Demonstrate reliability, the ability to multi-task, and work under flexible conditions
Experience in health promotion, dental outreach, and oral health advocacy activities would be an asset
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to clearly convey information and ideas in order to communication effectively across all levels of the organization
