Whitehorse (Yukon). AS-01: $54,878 to $54,878. This is an opportunity to join the Northern legal team of Justice Canada as a Legal Assistant.

This position is located in the Whitehorse office, one of three offices in the Northern Region. The Whitehorse office is composed of five lawyers, a paralegal, two legal assistants, an office administrator/executive assistant and the regional director general of the Northern Region. The Office primarily provides general civil litigation services to all federal departments operating in the Territory, although its main clientele is Crown Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The office also has a small advisory practice, primarily focused on the implementation and negotiation of modern treaties, and on the assessment and regulation of natural resources initiatives.

The legal assistant in the Whitehorse office is an integral part of the legal team. Main functions include, opening and closing files, drafting letters and preparing court filings, organizing legal records, booking travel, answering general phone calls, and monitoring the main entrance of the Office. Given the varied general legal practice of the office, there is always something new going on. And given the limited staff, there is also always something new to learn. Ce poste est situ\xc3\xa9 au bureau de Whitehorse, l\'un des trois bureaux de la r\xc3\xa9gion du Nord. Le bureau de Whitehorse est compos\xc3\xa9 de cinq avocats, d\'un parajuriste, de deux assistants juridiques, d\'un administrateur de bureau/adjoint ex\xc3\xa9cutif et du directeur g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9ral r\xc3\xa9gional de la r\xc3\xa9gion du Nord. Le bureau fournit principalement des services g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9raux de contentieux civil \xc3\xa0 tous les minist\xc3\xa8res f\xc3\xa9d\xc3\xa9raux op\xc3\xa9rant sur le territoire, bien que sa principale client\xc3\xa8le soit le minist\xc3\xa8re des Relations avec les Autochtones de la Couronne et des Affaires du Nord, ainsi que la Gendarmerie royale du Canada. Le bureau a \xc3\xa9galement une petite pratique consultative, principalement ax\xc3\xa9e sur la mise en \xc5\x93uvre et la n\xc3\xa9gociation de trait\xc3\xa9s modernes, ainsi que sur l\'\xc3\xa9valuation et la r\xc3\xa9glementation des initiatives en mati\xc3\xa8re de ressources naturelles.

L\'assistant juridique du bureau de Whitehorse fait partie int\xc3\xa9grante de l\'\xc3\xa9quipe juridique. Ses principales fonctions consistent \xc3\xa0 ouvrir et \xc3\xa0 fermer des dossiers, \xc3\xa0 r\xc3\xa9diger des lettres et \xc3\xa0 pr\xc3\xa9parer des d\xc3\xa9p\xc3\xb4ts en cour, \xc3\xa0 organiser les dossiers juridiques, \xc3\xa0 r\xc3\xa9server des voyages, \xc3\xa0 r\xc3\xa9pondre aux appels t\xc3\xa9l\xc3\xa9phoniques g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9raux et \xc3\xa0 surveiller l\'entr\xc3\xa9e principale du bureau. \xc3\x89tant donn\xc3\xa9 la diversit\xc3\xa9 de la pratique juridique g\xc3\xa9n\xc3\xa9rale du bureau, il y a toujours quelque chose de nouveau qui se passe. Et comme le personnel est limit\xc3\xa9, il y a aussi toujours quelque chose de nouveau \xc3\xa0 apprendre.
