Code Hunter LLP, a commercial litigation boutique, has a full-time opportunity for a Legal Assistant to work with two or more lawyers. We strive to provide a highly professional and collaborative workplace and seek an individual with a solution-oriented, positive and helpful approach.
Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Duties will include:
Communicating openly and frequently with lawyers and other staff;
Preparing, filing and serving applications, affidavits, pleadings, written briefs, factums and trial materials;
Preparing and handling correspondence and emails, including transcribing dictation as required;
Ensuring document organization within our paperless filing system, and where paper copies and files are required, preparing documents and maintaining their organization;
Obtaining copies of cases and legislation from online sources;
Understanding and maintaining confidentiality and privilege;
Ensuring entry of limitations and calendar items for deadlines and diarizations;
Performing client account administration, including submitting disbursements for payment and preparing, editing and dispatching accounts;
Assisting other lawyers and assistants with priority matters and providing support to assistants and reception during absences and vacations;
Other responsibilities as assigned.
Applicants should have the following background and skills:
Legal Assistant certification or diploma;
Minimum one year of experience as a legal assistant to litigation lawyers;
Knowledge of the Alberta Rules of Courtand of requirements for content and filing of court documents;
Excellent knowledge of grammar and spelling and ability to proofread with attention to detail;
Ability to work as part of a team and to contribute as needed to serve the firm's clients;
Computer skills, including excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Adobe;
Ability to work independently and on own initiative.
