Our primary areas of practice include commercial and contractual disputes, employment, personal injury, defamation, criminal, traffic, debt collection, and professional malpractice. We frequently appear in all levels of Court in British Columbia, ranging from Provincial to the Court of Appeal.

We are looking for a legal administrative assistant that wants to be part of a fast-paced, innovative team where your contributions and ideas matter.

Hours: 8 AM to 4 PM Monday through Friday. One hour paid lunch break.

This position is on a contract basis and is to cover for 18 months' of maternity leave

Requirements:



We are looking for someone who is eager to learn and grow with us, first and foremost. We will consider all educational backgrounds, and no previous legal experience is required. The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications and traits:

ESSENTIALS

Post-secondary education at the college/university level OR some reception and office administration experience in a small to medium sized office Professional attitude and appearance Ability to maintain confidentiality Superior verbal and written communication skills Excellent ability to multi-task, prioritize, and be detail-oriented Ability to work under pressure, deal with multiple deadlines, effectively and calmly handle stressful situations, and work effectively with minimal direction/supervision A friendly, positive, proactive attitude, dependability and flexibility, and a keen enthusiasm for learning new skills Proficiency in the MS Office suite of applications with the ability to quickly adapt to and master new programs and processes
PREFERRED (but not required, as we are willing to train the right person):

LAA certificate or previous experience in a similar field Familiarity with litigation files and knowledgeable about court procedures for civil, family, and criminal matters in both Supreme Court and Provincial Court Strong drafting ability Solid understanding of law office policies and procedures Conversational fluency in Punjabi and/or Hindi
The successful candidate's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to the following:

Answering and screening phone calls Opening and closing files Greeting clients and managing traffic through our reception area Mail retrieval, ordering couriers Daily banking and related data entry Booking consultations and taking payments Creating invoices and receipts Collecting on accounts receivable and seeking further retainers on files Scanning and filing documents Maintaining a bring-forward (BF) system Drafting routine correspondence to both clients and opposing counsel Preparing documents for use in litigation such as demand letters, Notices of Civil Claim, demands for production of documents, Notices of Applications, releases, authorizations, etc. Preparing materials for court such as books of authorities, application records, and trial binders Providing general assistance to lawyers and other office staff, as directed
