Under the direction of the Assistant Principal and Registrar of Woodsworth College and in consultation with the Transitional Year Program (TYP) and Accessibility Services, the Learning Strategist is responsible for developing and delivering programs/strategies to students in the TYP and Academic Bridging Program (ABP) and those who transition into the Faculty of Arts and Science who need additional academic support to ensure they possess the tools needed to take charge of their own learning.

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the .

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Counselling students on health issues related to their learning and the effects of their disability
  • Providing feedback on assessment results and diagnosis to student
  • Advising students on co-curricular, academic and personal matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual\'s background
  • Developing accommodation plans for students based on their learning profile and documentation
  • Liaising with course instructors and staff to ensure students receive support required for academic, practicum and/or placement accommodations
  • Keeping well-informed on faculty requirements, the University structure, academic policies and procedures, and specific learning requirements within courses and programs
  • Facilitating psychoeducational workshops that promote the development of coping strategies and skills
Essential Qualifications:
  • Master\'s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years recent and related experience in a post-secondary setting working with a range of students with diverse educational experiences and academic skill.
  • Experience with counseling, conducting workshops, and working with students with learning disabilities.
  • Experience with meta-cognitive, functional limitations and strengths of adults with learning disabilities (LD).
  • Experience with adults who have experienced difficulties in their years in school due to factors of institutional discrimination, financial or family hardship, or culture distinctiveness, as well as others needing unique academic support and effective methods of using strengths to compensate for difficulties.
  • Experience offering study skills workshops and assisting in the delivery of small group learning is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the learning needs of students with disabilities.
  • Knowledge about university structures, a clear understanding of academic policies and procedures and specific learning requirements within courses and programs is required.
  • Demonstrated advanced skill with MS Office, e.g., Access, Word Processing, Excel, Power Point
  • Excellentinterpersonal, oral and written communication skills for collaborating with faculty, fostering student development and managing conflict.
  • Excellent interviewing skills.
  • Independent judgment and creative problem solving is required especially regarding individual program plans.

USW Pay Band 13 -- $76,284 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $97,556. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
