As a Learning Strategist, you will be supporting students' academic achievement, personal and social development, and vocational growth. You will be responsible for designing and delivering programs that empower students, fostering self-advocacy, self-understanding, and strategic approaches to learning. HOW YOU WILL SUCCEED:



Provide individualized support for a diverse student population, including those with learning, physical, medical, and mental health disabilities, as well as new English language learners and student-athletes. Promote and support students' well-being, enhance their personal resilience, and help them thrive both academically and personally. Analyze psychoeducational assessments and medical documentation to develop, implement, and assess personalized learning profiles for students. Focus on developing academic skills, compensatory learning, and time management strategies, while evaluating current practices and researching new, valid methods and strategies to support students' education and self-monitoring. Identify and provide ongoing instruction, strategies, and techniques to help students leverage their strengths and address their learning challenges. Encourage student independence and the use of strategies that are applicable to current academic demands and future learning opportunities. Collaborate closely with the guidance team, faculty, families, and other community members to assess student progress and design tailored learning strategies to best support each student. Coordinate academic and transitional support for incoming students, ensuring their smooth integration into Appleby College. Lead both small group sessions and one-on-one sessions to provide focused support for students. Develop workshops and training opportunities to enhance the ability of Appleby College staff to support a diverse range of learners. Staff the Student Success Centre and coordinate accommodations for tests and exams, ensuring all students receive appropriate support.

WHAT YOU BRING

:



Proven experience working with students with learning disabilities in an educational setting Teacher education (B.Ed, M.Ed.) or substantial teaching experience in settings such as University, College, or specialized instruction Ontario College of Teachers certification (or equivalent) is a plus Post-Secondary education with relevant specialization (Guidance and/or Special Education) is an Asset Strong understanding of learning disabilities and knowledge of support services available at post-secondary institutions and how to access them Ability to interpret psychoeducational assessments and understand the impact of learning disabilities or psychological diagnoses on academic performance. Proficient in integrating adaptive technology (e.g., voice-to-text, text-to-voice software, and Outlook) and learning strategies to support student success. Demonstrated ability to handle information with confidentiality and professionalism.
