Learner Well Being Consultant Faculty Of Medicine

Job Description

Under the supervision of the Manager, Learner Well-Being & Success, and as part of a collaborative team, the successful candidate will deliver well-being and wellness services, programs, and initiatives to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners. This role aims to enhance the overall experience of medical learners, ultimately contributing to the improvement of healthcare quality in Prince Edward Island.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



Collaborating with university stakeholders and community agencies to develop strategies based on a healthy campus model that identify, address, and enhance the well-being needs of both undergraduate and postgraduate learners Conducting triage assessments through confidential meetings to support learners in distress, addressing personal and academic well-being challenges Promoting mental well-being through a variety of programs, including workshops, seminars, group sessions, and resources that help learners manage stress, maintain mental health, and know how to seek support when needed Implementing early intervention strategies or referring learners to appropriate health professionals when necessary Providing mandatory pulse check sessions for all incoming learners to assess and support their well-being Designing and delivering workshops and outreach programs to promote and improve learner well-being Assisting learners in developing professionalism and a commitment to physician health and sustainable practice Conducting research to create engaging programs and educational sessions that promote professionalism, personal health, awareness, well-being, and resilience among learners Leading and raising awareness for learner well-being activities, such as peer support groups, Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) National Wellness Month events, stress management seminars, wellness blogs/newsletters, and other well-being-related sessions Building and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external groups to foster well-being initiatives Preparing reports and other documentation as needed to track progress and outcomes Actively participating as a member of committees and working groups focused on learner well-being Collaborating with team members to develop content and promote well-being programming for learners Ensuring that learner well-being web resources and social media channels are up-to-date and accurate Assisting in the ongoing development and implementation of Accreditation action plans to maintain compliance with standards set by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS)

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience (minimum of five years) providing advice and well-being services in the health/wellness/well-being environment An undergraduate degree is required (degrees within the Humanities, Communication, Education, or other applicable areas would be considered an asset) A Master's Degree combined with experience in Coaching would be an asset Certification in Coaching, Mental Health First Aid, ASIST, Mediation, or De-Escalation would be considered an asset In-depth knowledge of the social and cultural pressures, well-being challenges, and the unique environment faced by both undergraduate and postgraduate medical learners A strong passion for and commitment to effective problem-solving, as well as the continuous improvement of programs and services Experience in developing and delivering well-being sessions tailored to support learners' mental and emotional health Excellent listening, communication, and analytical skills to assess and address learner needs effectively Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team The ability to build meaningful relationships with a diverse range of learners, faculty, and staff Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment The capacity to inspire confidence in learners and help them build self-awareness and personal growth Proficiency in Microsoft Office, website management, and social media platforms to support communication and engagement efforts * Knowledge of Accreditation Standards and the academic policies and regulations for the University of Prince Edward Island and Memorial University would be an asset
