The Murphy Centre is a community-based agency committed to providing quality academic, career and personal development opportunities to participants. In partnership with The Gathering Place, the Literacy Program is delivered onsite to Guests of The Gathering Place. Funding for this initiative is from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. This is a term position until January 31, 2023, with the possibility of an extension.Working in a team environment, the Literacy Program concentrates on adult foundational literacy, numeracy, digital literacy, and life skills. Other learning opportunities may be required depending on the needs of the Guests of The Gathering Place.Core Responsibilities* Promoting and recruiting for the Literacy Program within The Gathering Place community* Assessing the learning needs of individual learners* Designing and instructing learning plans tailored to each learner* Facilitating learning in individual and small group settings* Supporting learners through the learner advisory process* Developing partnerships with other community organizations to enhance programming* Assisting with the report writing and evaluation of the initiativeCandidate Qualifications and Characteristics* Education degree* Valid Newfoundland and Labrador teaching certificate* Competence and experience in teaching Literacy and Numeracy* Background in supporting individuals to overcome academic and life challenges* Knowledge and experience in adult education* Knowledge and experience in differentiated instruction* Knowledge and experience using assessment tools and resources* Knowledge and experience working with populations with complex needs* Team-playerResumes must be received on or before August 31, 2022.
