The Lead Technician will work under the direct supervision of the Production Manager, taking direction from Artistic Director, Director, and Designers where applicable. They will be responsible for executing technical aspects of Magnus Theatre's productions, rentals, and special events. This position is ideal for a highly organized and independent individual with a passion for the performing arts and a knowledge of industry trends and best practices.
Responsibilities
Assume the lead technical responsibility for Magnus Theatre productions and rental events in consultation with Production Manager, Directors, and Designers. Technical requirements include but are not limited to: audio, lighting, and projection installation, configuration, and operation; set construction; and equipment maintenance and replacement.
Oversee the costing of the technical components of Magnus Theatre productions in consultation with Production Manager and Production Department Heads.
Contribute to the development of theatre spaces, with a particular focus on equipment replacements and upgrades.
Other duties as required
Qualifications
Graduate of a recognized technical program, theatre program, and/or a minimum of 3-5 years experience
Comprehensive working knowledge of all production elements used by a producing performance theatre
Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, project management, sound and lighting control applications (Q-Lab)
Excellent communication, interpersonal, collaborative a leadership skills and ability to meet deadlines
Ability to run live performance events and lead a team of technicians
Ability to troubleshoot and solve technical issues during live performance events
Thorough knowledge of health and safety regulations and experience in adhering to health and safety in the workplace
Ability to work evenings and weekends, particularly during tech period, performance run, and rental events
Ability to work within and maintain a highly effective and positive team culture
Further Information
The successful candidate will work onsite in Thunder Bay, Ontario to grow Magnus Theatre alongside our vibrant, team-oriented staff. Evening and weekend work will be required.
This position is governed by the terms outlined in the Collective Agreement negotiated between Magnus Theatre and IATSE Local 467, but there is not a requirement that the successful applicant already be a member of IATSE.
