Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto\'s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

We are looking for a Risk Lead to develop a project risk management strategy and support facilitating risk management activities across projects. This role will be accountable for developing, measuring, and monitoring Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and accountable for quantitative risk modelling (cost and schedule) across projects. To establish and enhance cross-functional integration of risk management, the Risk Lead will plan and facilitate deep-dive risk workshops with internal and external stakeholders, be accountable for providing insights based on risk management outcomes and ensure the project is delivered on budget and on time. The Risk Lead will have an active role in continuously improving the risk management function.

What will I be doing?

  • Reporting to the Senior Manager, Risk Management and responsible for delivering risk management across assigned project(s) within a program to an individual project budget above $1B value or high complexity rating.
  • Supports the development of risk registers, key risk indicators and mitigations through meeting with risk owners/stakeholders, hosting deep-dive workshops to identify and assess risks, developing action plans, and the identification of quantitative risk indicators to track how risk exposures may be developing/trending.
  • Develop, run, report and assure detailed quantitative risk analysis models (cost and schedule) to support options analysis, commercial decision-making, contractual risk-transfer strategies, inform the setting of appropriate project-level contingency (both cost and schedule) and support the agile use and of contingency on a programmatic basis (e.g. drawdowns).
  • Identifies project risks via leading and facilitating workshops with various internal and external stakeholders (e.g., project controls, engineers, and project managers).
  • Engages with external partners/authorities to conduct joint risk reviews and mitigations.
  • Responsible for producing and presenting/ reporting metrics and performing regular data analysis with associated tracking & reporting.
  • Creates an environment of continuous improvement, opens channels of communication that invite suggestions and innovative thinking, and proactively seeks best practices in risk management to keep up with emerging trends.
  • Develop and maintain an environment of positive collaboration through solid working relationships and linkages between business units and departments, and between Metrolinx and others.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Analytics, Engineering, Construction Management) or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Minimum of 4years experience in progressively advancing roles within risk management, preferably in a civil infrastructure, construction project environment, or combination of experience and education deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated years of experience implementing or supporting project controls within a construction project environment.
  • Expert knowledge and experience using industry-standard software packages and applications Active Risk Manager (ARM), Primavera Risk Analysis (PRA), @Risk.
  • Demonstrable skilled experience in risk management theory, principles, and practice, with expert knowledge of the broader project controls theory, principles and practice.
  • High attention to detail, and excellent verbal, written, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Expert knowledge and experience in successfully managing competing objectives of stakeholders and recognizing materiality.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze problems, detect root causes, and propose solutions.
  • Expert in addressing and engaging project managers one-on-one and in a workshop environment.
  • Certifications or Designations Preferable PMI Certified Risk Management Professional (RMP) or Project Management Professional (PMP), Canadian Risk Management (CRM).
