Reporting to the Sr. Manager, the Project Technician Design Lead tracks design packages for submission to the client. The Project Technician Design Lead will communicate any delays in the design schedule to management proactively and find solutions to alleviate the issue(s). The successful candidate will also coordinate any design package submission or comments delays, and coordinate design review comments between Construction and Performance Team to the Designers to ensure closeout of comments in the design package.What You\'ll Do Here:
  • Track design packages for submission to the client and collaborate with document controllers for their timely delivery.
  • Support the Project Manager in preparing a schedule that meets client expectations.
  • Communicate any delays in the design schedule proactively to the Project Manager and find solutions to mitigate; keep track of all delays and associated claims with design consultants.
  • Communicate timelines and expectations with Project Designers and Project Technicians.
  • Coordinate with Client\'s document control team any design package submission or comments receipt delays.
  • Coordinate design review comments between Project Engineers, Project Designers, and Project Technicians to ensure accurate closeout of comments in the design packages.
  • Collect information on a weekly and monthly basis for updating the progress reports.
  • Coordinate suppliers\' info with Design Team and ensure their delivery to the client.
  • Coordinating design quality aspects with the team and help preparing for design quality audits with QA/QC.
  • Promote any changes in the process that will improve efficiency and quality of design packages.
  • Respond effectively to Project Designers and Project Technicians enquiries/requests in efforts to support design process.
  • Assist design team to proceed on time as planned.
  • Develop optimised solutions and reduce scopes for cost minimisation.
  • Organize training between Project Designers and Project Technicians.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Post-secondary education in Electrical/Civil Engineering or Architectural program would be considered an asset.
  • Minimum five years of design experience with utility projects, specifically telecommunications, hydro, and gas.
  • Minimum three years of managerial experience is required.
  • Must be familiar with pole line analysis.
  • High proficiency with AutoCAD software and experience customizing AutoCAD, scripts, tools, and menus.
  • Ability to assume responsibility, interface and communicate with others a must.
  • An understand of CSA and Hydro One standards is considered an asset.
  • Substantial understanding of reviewing electrical/civil engineering drawings and site plans.
  • Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness.
  • Strong understanding of municipality standards.
