Job Description



As a key contributor to SPG's Engineering Team, the

Lead Mechanical Engineer

will guide engineering efforts to find and deliver the best HVAC retrofit solutions for existing buildings across Canada. You'll work closely with clients to design and implement decarbonization and energy efficiency strategies, making a marked impact on the built environment.

Overview of Tasks



1. HVAC Design & Innovation



Lead the design of retrofit HVAC systems tailored for retrofitting and existing buildings, with a focus on decarbonization and energy efficiency. Conduct feasibility studies, assess existing building mechanical systems, and provide recommendations for optimal equipment selection. Prepare design specifications and ensure all designs meet applicable codes, regulations, and standards. Lead mechanical design and coordinate with drafting teams.

2. Project Implementation



Collaborate with architects, designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered successfully. Clearly and simply convey solutions to client teams through discussions and technical presentations. Oversee construction activities, perform site inspections, and provide guidance to the electrical engineer, drafting team, and construction teams. Stay updated on emerging technologies and best practices in HVAC design and decarbonization.

What We're Looking For



A creative mechanical engineer with a minimum of 3+ years of experience in existing building assessments and retrofit projects. 5-10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer Experience with energy-efficient HVAC systems, domestic hot water systems, and plumbing systems. Expertise in designing electrification solutions for heating systems. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to clearly communicate tailored solutions. Exceptional project management and collaboration skills. Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and standards. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta, or eligible for registration with APEGA. A passion for sustainability and reducing carbon emissions in the built environment. Strong communication skills and a strategic mindset with the ability to forecast, plan, and collaborate effectively.

Pay: $85,000.00-$112,000.00 per year
