The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of the production machinery within Merit Kitchens' manufacturing plant. This role plays a critical part in supporting our tradition of craftsmanship excellence while embracing innovations in technology to produce high-quality semi-custom cabinetry.
The position focuses on the execution of preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of woodworking and cabinet production equipment. At higher levels, the Lead Maintenance Technician is expected to serve as an "all-round" expert, capable of addressing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic issues across multiple technical disciplines.
Responsibilities:
Inspections and Preventive Maintenance:
Perform scheduled inspections on woodworking and cabinetry production equipment (e.g., CNC routers, panel saws, edge banders, drills, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, etc.).
Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance based on established schedules and checklists.
Identify potential equipment failures, report issues to supervisors, and recommend preventive measures.
Support planned maintenance activities during production downtimes and coordinate with external contractors when required.
Malfunctions, Defects, and Repairs:
Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in machinery, mechanical/electrical systems, and control systems.
Perform emergency repairs to minimize production disruptions.
Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment components in compliance with safety and operational standards.
Document all repair activities within a maintenance management system.
Modifications and Improvements:
Execute machinery modifications or upgrades as directed.
Propose equipment improvements to enhance productivity, safety, and reliability.
Participate in the installation and commissioning of new machines.
Qualifications:
Technical diploma or trade certification in industrial/mechanical/electrical maintenance, or equivalent experience.
Minimum 4-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
Strong understanding of woodworking or cabinetry production equipment preferred.
Skilled in mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
Familiarity with ERP/CMMS systems for maintenance tracking is an asset.
Strong knowledge of workplace safety standards and hazard prevention.
