We are seeking a hands-on Lead Maintenance Technician to lead our hotel maintenance team and ensure the property is safe, functional, and guest-ready at all times. This role is responsible for day-to-day repairs, preventive maintenance, and coordinating priorities for the maintenance team while supporting ongoing projects and vendor work.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & coordination
Lead the daily maintenance function: review work orders, prioritize tasks, and coordinate coverage for guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house.
Provide direction and coaching to maintenance team members to ensure safe, timely, and high-quality work.
Coordinate vendor visits, quotations, and follow-ups; ensure work is completed to standard and documented.
Communicate clearly with Operations/Housekeeping/Front Office on priorities, room status impacts, and timelines.
Repairs & preventive maintenance
Troubleshoot and repair general building systems and hotel equipment, including (as applicable): HVAC/basic refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall/patching, painting/caulking, doors/locks, fixtures, and appliances.
Complete preventive maintenance routines and inspections; address recurring issues to reduce repeat calls and downtime.
Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests with a service-focused approach.
Safety, logs & inventory
Follow all safety procedures and ensure team adherence (PPE, ladder safety, lockout/tagout practices where applicable).
Maintain accurate logs and documentation (work orders, maintenance records, meter readings, inspections, incidents).
Maintain parts/tools inventory and organize storage; request materials as needed.
Projects & energy savings
Support small projects and renovations: scope, plan, coordinate, and follow through to completion.
Identify energy-saving opportunities and support efficiency initiatives through maintenance best practices.
Requirements
3+ years of hands-on building maintenance experience (hotel experience strongly preferred).
Proven ability to lead day-to-day maintenance priorities and guide a small team.
Solid working knowledge of preventive maintenance and troubleshooting (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, general repairs).
Comfortable using tools, reading basic manuals, and diagnosing issues logically.
Strong communication, professionalism, and a guest-service mindset.
Basic computer skills (email, work orders/CMMS, simple spreadsheets/logs).
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in mechanical rooms and varied conditions.
Pool/spa experience/certification
Valid driver's license preferred.
Assets (Preferred)
Trade certification or coursework (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, etc.).
WHMIS, Working at Heights, lockout/tagout training.
Experience in a unionized environment.
