As a Labour Relations Consultant you will support both unionized and non-unionized employees on labour and employee relation functions as a subject matter expert. You will collaborate with business partners to ensure industry best practices and collective agreement requirements are applied and are in alignment with our co-operative values.Reporting to the Senior HR Partner, this role is accountable for the overall management of the labour relations function as well as contributing to the execution of human resources strategies and tactics to support the needs of their business partners in a manner consistent with our co-operative values, industry best practices and legislative and Collective Agreement requirements.This role supports both unionized and non-unionized business partners on a day-to-day basis by providing LR subject matter expertise & HR consulting support that fosters and promotes a positive work environment. Additionally, this role serves as a consultant to business leaders on all strategic talent matters, diagnosing needs and increasing organizational effectiveness in areas including employee engagement, leader effectiveness, organizational design, learning needs/opportunities, succession planning, change management.How you will create impact:

  • Provide expert consultative support to leadership on the interpretation of relevant policies, Collective Agreements, legislation and other terms and conditions of employment, ensuring that all relevant legislated, Collective Agreement and policy driven obligations are met.
  • Provide expertise and advice to business partners on the resolutions of grievances and workplace issues. Manage grievance process and arbitration through all stages.
  • Perform day to day labour relations support including workplace investigations, workplace issues, performance management, conflict resolution, disability and attendance management.
  • Lead development and execution of collective bargaining strategy and related communication and activities in line with corporate strategic imperatives
  • Act as a strategic business partner by providing consultation and advice on all aspects of HR strategic programs and practices in order to support business challenges and achieve strategic business goals. This includes activities in key areas such as employee engagement, succession planning, change management, organizational design, recruitment and selection of senior leaders, total rewards, workforce planning and analytics.
  • Provide HR consulting, advisory and coaching support on matters relating to employee relations, recruitment & selection best practices, employee engagement and various HR policies and programs
  • Shares observations and feedback on current and future needs of the business and contributes to the design and development of HR strategies, priorities, plans and interventions, ensuring alignment from a strategic perspective.

To join our team:
  • You have seven years of experience in Labour Relations, with HR Consulting experience in a non-unionized environment.
  • You have completed a post-secondary degree in Industrial Relations or HR Management.
  • You have obtained the Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL) designation and a Labour Relations or Dispute Resolution certificate.
  • You have in-depth knowledge of the collective bargaining process, labour relations, employment legislation and managing the grievance and arbitration process.
  • You have experience developing labour relations programs, policies and practices.
  • You have an expert understanding of HR best practices in areas of Talent Management, Employee Engagement, Change management, Total Rewards, Organizational design, etc
