Our Team

Vale continues to invest in innovation and technology to transform its business by improving safety and productivity and strengthen its reputation in mining leadership. One of Vale\xe2\x80\x99s boldest investments and commitments to innovation is the new Integrated Remote Operations Centre located at its North Atlantic Operations Centre in Sudbury, Ontario.

Through new digital connectivity, this state-of-the-art centralized control centre \xe2\x80\x93 better known as iROC \xe2\x80\x93 will connect leaders and frontline workers across all seven of Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Canadian mines. Not only will the iROC team strengthen communications across our mining operations, iROC will also be a cornerstone in real-time data collection and analytics to support robust decision making in planning and execution. This 24/7 continuous data feed will drive agile action plans in real-time, improving shift productivity and adherence to plans. iROC will also improve safety by reducing emergency response time through enhanced location awareness and by facilitating the active monitoring of hazards such as seismicity.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking two (4) iROC Operational Leads to join our iROC Control Center team in Sudbury, Ontario. These are permanent positions.

You will be working on a 5-4 12-hour shift schedule, days and nights. As an iROC Operational Lead, you will monitor, develop and support the execution of planned work across our integrated mining and processing operations by collecting and analyzing real-time data, prioritizing critical work and recovery plans and assisting our frontline workforce at site to drive our mining operations productivity and safely.

In addition, you will:

  • Follow Vale\xe2\x80\x99s Safety Policies, Programs and Legislative Standards
  • Ensure site(s) are adhering to Vale\xe2\x80\x99s VPS business process standards, procedures and using system applications and tools in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Understands the key stakeholders at the site and engages them as directed by the iROC Management Operating System (MOS).
  • Monitors the 24/7 progress of all in-shift activities including delays, equipment breakdown, mine heading status and task start and end time. Interacts and provides guidance to frontline leaders and frontline workers.
  • Works closely with the assigned plant leadership teams to react to unforeseen events by providing recommendations to priorities/planned work through iROC\xe2\x80\x99s real-time visual line of sight (data) to deliver on divisional results.
  • Escalate decisions or variances to plan to the necessary stakeholders. Issues end-of-shift reports and metrics.
  • Assists with emergency response procedures, including working alone and fire response.
  • Monitors seismic systems, providing abnormal ground activity information and recommendations to frontline crews.
About You

Education:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or college diploma in a related discipline.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years of underground mining, planning, and scheduling, project management or maintenance experience.
Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment.
  • Strong Interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Must be skilled in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Must have strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability influence without authority.
  • Takes initiative and self-directs to accomplish goals with minimum supervision.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
