Teck is looking for two highly motivated, collaborative, and passionate Health & Safety (H&S) professionals to support our fast-paced and complex Exploration field operations based at Teck\xe2\x80\x99s Red Dog Operations in the De Long Mountains of northwest Alaska. The roles will work closely with corporate H&S professionals, project management leaders, geoscience subject matter experts, and a diverse mix of high-performing contractors.

Reporting to the Senior Project Geologist, Exploration - Canada/USA, the Lead, Health & Safety, Exploration - Red Dog is responsible for leading the design, implementation, management and verification of H&S programs for Red Dog Exploration activities to promote a safety-focused culture through risk assessment and mitigation and ensure operational compliance to occupational health and safety standards. The Lead, Health & Safety ensures that Red Dog Exploration staff and contractors have the necessary training, understanding, tools and support to safely execute project fieldwork, in alignment with best practices and existing processes, and fulfill their designated H&S responsibilities.

We are seeking a dynamic, results-driven, highly organized H&S practitioner with extensive field and operational experience in the resource industry. This professional will have a compelling track record of overseeing safe operations in a number of operating settings, with a proven ability to collaborate and problem-solve with diverse professionals of all backgrounds.

This role is located at our site in Alaska (Red Dog), therefor we are open to US citizens/PR who have the legal ability to work in the US. As well, those with the legal capacity to obtain a US work visa who are non-US citizens/PR (Canadian Citizens/PR). We will provide support to non-US citizens/PR to obtain a US work visa.

Travel will be required to the site and this will be covered by Teck.

Responsibilities:

  • Be a courageous safety leader and demonstrate a strong record of leadership in health, safety, and sustainability. Take actions to stop or defer work if H&S conditions are deemed unsatisfactory or unmanageable.
  • Ensure all exploration activities at Red Dog are conducted in alignment with the best practices and processes of Teck Exploration & Geosciences, Red Dog Operations, and Teck\xe2\x80\x99s Project Development Group, in alignment with federal & Alaska state legal requirements.
  • Support project leads in safely executing field projects through the development and implementation of H&S management plans encompassing risk assessments, emergency response plans, inductions, inspections, and critical control verifications.
  • Understand and practically implement the principles of Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Risk Mitigation.
  • Develop and review Safe Work Procedures and contractor occupational health & safety documents for the broad scope of exploration activities undertaken at Red Dog.
  • Coordinate, implement and manage relevant training and certifications for Exploration staff, contractors and all personnel on site, including facilitating Courageous Safety Leadership and conducting routine \xe2\x80\x98needs assessments\xe2\x80\x99 to determine appropriate training.
  • Responsible for identification, tracking and documentation of timely, accurate and insightful lead and lag indicators on the project, including managing of incident reporting and investigations.
  • Supports internal audits and addressing and closes out any findings and/or actions in a timely fashion.
  • Drive completion, documentation, and implementation of any finding from critical control verifications through the annual life cycle of the project.
  • Manage safety devices in a cost-efficient and thorough manner.
  • Drives improvement and innovation across project health & safety activities by refining practices; eliminating barriers to safe production; identifying and implementing new technologies, processes or training to improve our health & safety performance and influences relevant stakeholders to ensure effective change management.
  • Provide support to Canada/USA and global H&S initiative, as required.
Qualifications
  • At least 6 or more years of experience in health & safety for mineral exploration, mining, petroleum or related industry.
  • Certificate, Diploma or professional designation in Occupational Health and Safety would be an asset.
  • Strong understanding of health and safety best practices in the resource sector and of the principles of hazard identification, risk assessment and risk mitigation.
  • Demonstrated organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills in dynamic, results-driven environments.
  • Superior ability to communicate and collaborate with individuals from diverse backgrounds, roles, and seniority. Ability to respectfully have difficult conversations and make courageous decisions to stop or defer work if health and safety conditions are deemed unsatisfactory.
  • Willingness (or enthusiasm) to work a rotation living in remote camps.
  • Previous experience working in and with helicopters and on helicopter-supported drill programs will be an asset.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office software suite.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada and the United States.
  • MSHA-certified trainer or eligibility to become a trainer within 1-2 years.

Salary Range: $101,000 - $125,000 CAD

The actual base salary offered is determined based on the successful candidate\xe2\x80\x99s relevant experience, skills, and competencies and considers internal equity.
