Position Overview

Under the general direction of the Manager, OR and MDR, this position is delegated the day to day responsibility and authority to plan, organize, direct, control and represent Medical Device Reprocessing to other MHC departments. Ensures proper protocol and quality assurance during reprocessing of instruments, OR packs and case cart systems. Coordinates the work of Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians. The main functions of the Lead Hand are to organize and coordinate the work flow to eliminate production problems, ensure efficient utilization of all resources, provide direction to the front-line staff, and, conduct quality assurance audits and inspections.

Experience

  • Two (2) years recent Medical Device Reprocessing experience required.
  • Minimum of one (1) year in a Leadership role in MDR environment preferred.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
  • Completion of Manitoba Grade 12 education required.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program required.
  • It is recommended that, at minimum, staff possess the Family & Friends category of training.
Qualifications and Skills
  • Works within MHC\'s core values, philosophy, vision, CQI goals, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to function as an effective member of an interdisciplinary team, including collaboration, team work and good communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with nursing staff and surgeons who work in the Operating Room and elsewhere in the facility.
  • Must have a complete knowledge of the required legal and quality documentation; a complete and thorough understanding of aseptic technique and all the various stages involved with processing medical devices.
  • Must have a complete and thorough understanding of the function of sterilizing equipment, washers/decontaminators, pasteurizers, sterile drying cabinets and heat sealers.
  • Proven ability to provide presentations and train staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain technically current in the field.
  • Must have advanced computer/skills and experience, such as data entry, email management, report writing, using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Outlook), and systems related to MDR management.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide direction to others.
  • Must possess good analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a highly stressful environment and be able to work independently.
  • Must be fluent in written and oral English.
  • Must be capable of applying knowledge to make decisions independently.
  • A proven orientation toward quality production is required.
  • Must be able to delegate responsibilities fairly and appropriately.
Physical Requirements
  • Good physical health to meet the requirements of the position.
This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
