The Lead Estimator overseas the estimating function for a top-tier architectural millwork company, ensuring the delivery of accurate, competitive, and timely estimates that support both successful project acquisition and execution. This role is responsible for overseeing all estimating activities, developing pricing strategies, and collaborating with internal teams to ensure alignment with production capabilities and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Oversight
Lead and manage the estimating department, setting clear goals, priorities, and performance standards.
Develop and implement standardized estimating procedures and tools to ensure consistency and accuracy.
Collaborate with executive leadership to support strategic planning and business development.
Estimating & Preconstruction
Oversee the preparation of detailed cost estimates and bid proposals for custom architectural millwork projects.
Interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and scope documents to determine material, labor, and production costs.
Ensure all estimates align with AWMAC construction standards and company capabilities.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with project management, engineering, and production teams to ensure estimates reflect real-world execution.
Participate in project handoffs to ensure a smooth transition from estimating to execution.
Negotiate pricing with suppliers and subcontractors when required.
Technology & Process Improvement
Leverage ERP systems to streamline workflows and improve data accuracy.
Continuously evaluate and improve estimating processes to enhance efficiency and competitiveness.
Monitor market trends and cost fluctuations to inform pricing strategies.
Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in architectural millwork or custom woodworking, with at least 5 years in a senior estimating or leadership role.
Strong knowledge of AWMAC construction standards and millwork fabrication methods.
Proven ability to lead teams, manage complex estimates, and contribute to successful project outcomes.
Proficiency with ERP systems (Innergy) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Preferred Education:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
