Our office is mere minutes from various smaller cities yet centrally located with major urban centers, beaches, and a myriad of wineries all within a 40-minute radius. Project needs can often be fast paced or demanding; however our scenic location provides perfect year-round opportunities to 'decompress'. Our team members enjoy walking throughout the plethora of maintained nature trails, enjoying the changing views each season has to offer. The Batawa gardens and parks are always kept in immaculate condition and a beautiful area to enjoy breaks or lunch during summer months. Although the ski hill is often the prime focus during the winter, our buildings are surrounded by six Zamboni surfaced outdoor rinks open free of charge for all skating enthusiasts. The successful applicant of this post will become an integral component of our team, offering design services to mines, power plants, storage facilities, ports and beyond. It is not unrealistic for a single project to involve a number of interesting, and sometime massive machines. Systems typically involve crushing/screening stations, various types of stackers, reclaimers or shiploaders, overland conveyors and trippers, as well as all related installations such as transfer or storage structures, hoppers, booms, bents, galleries, and foundations. The Challenge Lassing Dibben is looking for a Lead Engineer to join our Team in Batawa, Ontario, Canada. The Lead Engineer is an integral component of our multidisciplinary team. The candidate will need to blend team building and supervision with a hands-on approach requiring excellent technical, organizational, and communication skills. The individual will work closely with clients, sales, project management, and project staff. The successful candidate will report to the Senior Management Team and although this opening is primarily to support the ongoing growth of the firm, there is also a strategic initiative where the successful candidate could transition into the 'Director of Engineering & Design' position in the near future. Responsibilities During the sales phase, responsibilities include: * Review bid documentation (client's specifications) and report findings and potential deviations/clarifications. * Develop structural concept during the initial equipment layout phase, coordinating with the mechanical discipline to ensure that mechanical loads, functionality, maintainability, and safety are considered. * Perform preliminary structural steel calculations for the development of quantity estimates. Ensure that local codes and client's specifications are met. * Supervise and/or coordinate with other team members. * Work with procurement for the inquiry of steel fabrication by providing technical inputs and performing technical bid evaluations. During the execution phase, responsibilities include: * Consolidate structural concept and criteria for a given equipment by coordinating with the mechanical discipline to ensure that mechanical loads, equipment functionality, maintainability, and safety are considered. * Create or review foundation-load drawings, detail drawings (may incl. connections) and typical drawings. Develop design criteria and fabrication specifications. Ensure that local codes and client's specifications are met. * Supervise and/or coordinate with other structural/mechanical team members. * Sub-contract and manage additional project resources from external engineering companies. * Although equipment functionality is essential, key focus must also be dedicated to CIM aspects (Constructability, Installability and Maintainability) of all projects, including supporting and executing a strategy to ensure all designs are checked prior to fabrication for these key performance factors. * Review and approve shop drawings and erection drawings from steel fabricators. * Coordinate between steel fabricator, engineering, and erection teams to ensure that design is interpreted and implemented correctly, and design drawings are updated to incorporate changes.. Other responsibilities include: * Mentor junior engineers/designers. * Pro-actively assist the Director of Engineering and the Senior Management Team with the development of department processes standards and tools to improve efficiency. Qualifications * Bachelors' Degree or Master's Degree in Structural, Mechanical or Civil Engineering (ABET accredited program). An engineer also possessing an MBA is preferred * Active Professional Engineer (PEng) License. * 12 to 20 years of professional experience. * Expert user of structural calculation software such as RISA 3D (Preferred) or STAAD.Pro. * Experience in CAD design programs such as AutoCAD and/or Advance Steel (Preferred). * Passionate and self-motivated. * Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized. * Be flexible and eager to adapt to the needs of the team. * Ability to work under pressure. * Ability to travel domestically and internationally, as required, up to 25% of the time * Directly involved with business development / client engagement and business planning. Lassing Dibben is looking for good people and a good fit and certain particulars of the role can be worked into a future development plan. Relocation to the Quinte area is required however consideration may be made to accommodate a split arrangement with some remote working. Preference will be given to candidates with a daily in-office presence.
