Birchstone Construction is a growing real estate development and building company focused on crafting beautiful, efficient, and timeless homes. Our primary focus is on Scandinavian and mid-century modern designs, built either as long- and short-term rentals or as spec homes for the open market. We very seldom take on work for individual customers or homeowners, which helps keep stress low and allows us to stay focused on building quality homes that we own and manage, or sell. At Birchstone Construction, we do our own foundation formwork, complete the full exterior shell, insulate, paint, and lay flooring -- while subcontracting out the remaining tasks.
Our growth plan is ambitious but clear: expanding from 4-6 homes per year to 15-20 homes annually, all based on the Eastern Shore. This role will play a key part in that expansion--offering not just stability, but also genuine opportunity to grow, earn, and invest alongside with us.
The Role
We're looking for a
Lead Carpenter & Site Supervisor
to join our core team and take ownership of daily site operations. This person will lead a crew of carpenters, oversee subcontractors, and ensure projects are completed to the highest standard, on schedule, and within budget.
The right candidate will be both hands-on and strategic--comfortable swinging a hammer and getting their hands dirty, but equally strong at planning, coordinating, and leading.
Responsibilities
Lead day-to-day operations on residential construction sites, from layout through to completion.
Supervise and work alongside carpenters and labourers, ensuring tasks are executed efficiently and correctly.
Coordinate and manage subcontractors on and off site (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, drywall, etc.), in collaboration with Senior Project Managers.
Maintain a safe, organized, and professional job site.
Proactively solve problems and keep projects on schedule.
Communicate clearly and professionally with the company owner, team members, and partners.
Uphold and model the company's standards for quality, integrity, and professionalism.
Qualifications
Minimum
5 years of experience
as both a
lead carpenter
and in
site supervision/management
roles.
Strong technical carpentry skills with the ability to read and execute plans.
Must have extensive experience in framing, siding, roofing, decks, and window & door installations.
Entrepreneurial mindset, with a drive to take ownership and push projects forward.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Professional, proactive, and reliable.
Respectful and understanding of others, with the ability to be firm and demanding when needed.
Good sense of humour--someone who makes the job site an enjoyable place to be.
What We Offer
Competitive wage based on experience.
Opportunities for bonuses and commissions on rental income and/or the sale of spec homes.
Opportunities to invest
directly in spec homes, and long- and short-term rental properties.
Room for advancement as Birchstone grows from 4-6 homes per year to 15-20 homes annually.
A collaborative work environment where your input is valued, and your role directly impacts the company's growth and success.
